When Gerrard placed the ball, the TV commentator stated that Liverpool had scored their previous 13 penalties. So that's 14.

Who would have believed that a couple of years ago?

So who was last to miss? Crouch? Gerrard himself? Presumably shoot-outs discounted so not Hyypia.

Anybody care to confirm the 14 with scorers?

Not including pre-season friendlies when torres and benayoun missed its something like this

Bolton Gerrard

Porto Gerrard

Fulham Gerrard

Everton (2) Kuyt

Charlton Kewell

Chelsea (4) zenden, alonso,gerrard, kuyt

Boro Gerrard

sheffield utd (2) fowler

charlton Alonso

last one we "missed" was gerrard v Fulham and we didnt really miss as he scored from the rebound so we still got the goal

last penalty that didnt result in a goal was bellamy away at birmingham.

I dont like Gerrard stepping up to pens. Actually, the only person I ever liked stepping up to the spot was Danny Murphy.

High, low, left, right, center - he always hit his target. In Fowler I was scared of, his penalties lately seemed never to hit the corner, though maybe thats because the keepers always seem to move and he hits it to the opposite side, but still................ :cold:

no you got it wrong and the commentator was right.

Penalty shoot outs does not count in official statistics, just the same way a player that scores in a penalty shoot out wont get credited with the goal in the scoring charts.

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics

if you want to ignore them then go ahead, but dont say the commentator is wrong when clearly we scored 4 pens that night.

I said this to the lad sat next to me at the match - I am in danger of getting to the stage where I expect us to score a peno.

At that point we will miss.

I would say a penalty missed in a pre-season match has got more validity in such a discussion than a penalty scored in a penalty shoot out.

But its nothing to argue about, what really matters is that we now score a lot more from our penalties compared to earlier.

don't know what's happened to gerrard, but he's a different guy now stepping up for penoes. looks so much more confident than he used to.

His set pieces this season have been a huge improvement. He must have about 30 - 40 out and out screamers to his name so far in his career. Can't remember another player who scores so many great goals.

johnny metgod. 100% record in forty-five yard screamers.

Not including penalty shoot outs, Gerrard has scored 8 goals out of his 11 penalties in Rafa`s reign here, not bad but not great either, a great penalty taker should not miss more than 1 out of 10 in my opinion.

I think if Gerrard stays away from that peno where he hits it with his laces he will score plenty. The likes of Spurs a few years back, etc, where he did the laces thing is when he misses now and again. His pen yesterday was almost unsaveable due to the pace he put on it.

You are right, either way the point still stands.

Penalties in penalty shoot outs should not be included. :)

L19red - don't ever posts stats again.

You've wound Kaizer up and now hes on full throttle stat attack.

I knew what I was doing and I was bored, and anyway I'm right. Everyone knows we scored 4 pens against chelsea.
