Spion kop Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Did well, His positioning was fine and managed to nick a few balls of anelka, he can also ping a pass quite well. He looked better than i've seem him in the friendlies, A good prospect.
KD07 Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Probably helped that he didn't have much time to dwell on his first league appearance. Whom would've thought Carra would have to go off on the very day Hobbs won a place on the bench eh.
Montse Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 He pinged a cracking pass to Torres for the knock down to Crouch deserved a better finish to the move but was really pleased for him. I like the way Rafa is blooding the young lads and ensuring they have a good tutor partnering them, lets face it they dont get better than Sami!
Guest Sabre Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 There was a shot on the telly of him talking to himself or Sami, which was quite cool. Must be incredibly hard to step into a game as a centre back because any error can result in a goal. He did fine against a top player in Anelka but they'll be sterner challenges ahead. I still think he's a little way off challenging but a couple more seasons playing in the League Cup and we'll know if he can make the step up.
Alonso Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 If we get a CB in Jan it wouldn't surprise me if he went out on loan to someone for the rest of the season to get regular first team football. Praise from Sami too: If Torres is a man for the present, 20-year-old centre back Jack Hobbs perhaps represents the future. The reserve team captain made his league debut on Sunday when he came on for Jamie Carragher, who sustained bruised ribs. Hyypia was in no doubt Hobbs would rise to the challenge. He said: "Jack has shown in training he is comfortable on the ball and a good defender. "I watched him here in the League Cup and he did well in that game. He is very talented and if he keeps his head down and works hard in training he can be one of our main players in the future."
charlie clown Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Thought he did really well - probably really helped him that his first touch of the ball was when he went on a foraging run up field, carried it about 30 yeards and then offloaded - was a really positive first involvement in the game and happened almost immediately he was on the pitch. His confidence must have been good to do it in the first place, but that it came off must have boosted him further.
Gunga Din Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 big credit has to go to Sami on this. he was constantly talking to him and telling hime he had done well, thumbs up and pats on the back. Hobbs hit an absolute cracking 50 yrad pass too. ghopefullu he can step up and take away the urgency of needing to buy cover.
Montse Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Hasnt he played CM a lot for the reserves? That has prob helped in his distribution a lot
Gunga Din Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Hasnt he played CM a lot for the reserves? That has prob helped in his distribution a lot players are often played out of position in the ressies in order to give them better awareness of other positions
Hassony Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 players are often played out of position in the ressies in order to give them better awareness of other positions Riise never played reserve football i take it
Guest spk Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 players are often played out of position in the ressies in order to give them better awareness of other positions aye, its something rafa does fairly often when he's developing players
JohnnyH Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Riise never played reserve football i take it They sit him on a different part of the bench.
Falconhoof Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 aye, its something rafa does fairly often when he's developing players Does he ? Who else has hedone it with or is he doing it with ?
Gunga Din Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Does he ? Who else has hedone it with or is he doing it with ? i dont know, but Paisley used to do it all the time. his thinking was that the players should understand what was required to play in the positions around them, ie, a centre half would spend time at fullback and central midfield, he believed it would improve players awreness and understanding of what was going on around them, and the difficulties colleagues experienced if they were caught out of position or didnt have an option to pass the ball

I was hoping to find out from spk if there are other players he's been switching around in the reserves.I remember people commenting on Hobbs exceptional stamina when they made the decision to switch him to midfield, it was probably a factor in thinking he could handle the position and thrive while he's learning.
The Hitman Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 its an Ajax thing originally, total footballApparently all youth players in Holland are taught to play 433.
Kahnee Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 ghopefullu Does anyone have any idea what this word was meant to be before the typing hammer kicked in?

josemisuncle Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Jay spearing plays all over the place as well. I've seen him @ CH, RB and CM.
Falconhoof Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Jay spearing plays all over the place as well. I've seen him @ CH, RB and CM. Never seen him at CH, he's not really built for that position is he, like jack Hobbs is.
IgPig Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 (edited) He's doing it with San Jose - played a recent game in central midfield (Ablett asked him if he knew the way....). Think it was him or it might have been Huth. Edited December 3, 2007 by Post Kuytal Glow
josemisuncle Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Never seen him at CH, he's not really built for that position is he, like jack Hobbs is.It was for the youth cup winning team where height is less of an issue.

growler Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Makes you wonder why CH is such a priority to purchase? surely Hobbs can be trusted to be 4th choice?
