Gunga Din Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 before the game today, i went to Ladbrokes and backed Hyypia to score first and Liverpool to win 5-0. the odds were 450/1. i had £2 on it. gutting. anyway, played really well today, Gerrard and Torres were outstanding, the pass Gerrard played for the 2nd goal was outstanding, and Torres never gave their defence a minutes peace all Hyypia was solid at the back, particularly when Hobbs came on, talking to him and encouraging him. Lucas looks solid too, does all the right things, and he looked very comfortable. really really pleased with our performance, clearly would have preferred a 5th goal, but hey ho.
New York Red Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I think you should track down babel and lamp him Wayne. He cost you a lot of money.
Stevie H Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 lucas looks a smashing player. really impressed with him so far.
McBain Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 lucas looks a smashing player. really impressed with him so far. We've taken the Cheyrou approach and it's working

We all were. You reckoned that Rafa might not be able to bring us the league. Do you think we were just going through a bad patch and we've recovered or do you still think that way. The turn around is amazing really as we're playin beautiful football at times as well as winning. How are you feeling these days about our chances Wayne? In the league I mean. Do you reckon Rafa could actually be the guy to take us all the way? I only ask as you're at almost all games it seems.

We were dropping silly points and playing very poorly for about 6 weeks and i was genuinely concerned as it wasn'y showing any signs of improvement. we are starting to rack up points again, and i've said all along we'll need 85 points minimum to win it. 6 points from our next 2 games, Reading and United, and we'll be well on our way.
Gunga Din Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 lucas looks a smashing player. really impressed with him so far. very solid today, doesnt give the ball away too often
Guest Sabre Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I think much of the turnaround has been due to Gerrard finding top form
Gunga Din Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 I think much of the turnaround has been due to Gerrard finding top form much more to it than that. the new guys are starting to get used to the wat we are playing, and our all round passing and movement has improved
Guest Sabre Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Sure, the new players are more settled but Gerrard binds it all together. He scored one, two direct assists and a strong hand in the other goal too. Two league games in a row and he has run the show. We were at our worst when he was underperforming.
magneto Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 It's all down to combinations. Rafa's getting them right now more often then not.
Maldini Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 much more to it than that. the new guys are starting to get used to the wat we are playing, and our all round passing and movement has improved and we're far more aggressive in possession of the ball, we were fannying about too much before, keep possession of course, but at some stage you have to penetrate their defence, we've improved in that respect.
ZZZZ Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 What is the record in the league for least goals conceded. At 6 goals in 14 games, the team is on track to leave in just 16 for the season
Rory Fitzgerald Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I think a big factor is the return of Torres. We have alot more confidence in breaking quickly because we know we have a spearhead that can break 35 to 40 yards out and wont be caught. With the other strikers just maybe we know the build up has to include a few more passes to work an opening. Torres also stretches defences and doesnt allow them to come and leave much space behind. As Wayne said, there are a few reasons, not just one.

Reggie Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 What was the atmosphere like today? Good support for Rafa?

IgPig Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 It's all down to combinations. Rafa's getting them right now more often then not. Agree with that - too much talk about rotation when it was more to do with the team selections, than just the fact that he was resting players.
stressederic Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 We just need to keep winning our games at the moment, and see if Arsenal blink. As much as I hate to slip into Sky Sports' marketing trap, the 16th is going to b e a big day. A result for us against United and a favourable result between Chelsea and Arsenal and it could all get very tight at the top just before the African Cup of Nations.

lawrie Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 It was sh*te... It was OK for the first hour then went very flat

lawrie Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 It was sh*te from start to finish. I suppose it depends where you were in the ground. I was in the Paddock so could hear the Kop loud and clear (to be fair though it WAS rubbish in the Paddock)
