Guest RedIsMyColour Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I don't see a place for him. We have a wealth of CM all better than him. Hopefully he'll be sold in Jan.
Guest RedLegend Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Not sure about leaving in Jan but I think his days might be numbered alright. Guess it depends if we hang on to Mascherano or not.
Bo Benn Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 With Lucas getting more and more games then yes, competition for him to get a game right now is too tough.
San Diego Red Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Feel for him, because he trys hard to impress and just doesn't get what he wants.
Big Red Machine Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Is he playing in the African Cup of nations? If so no one would buy him in jan anyways.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 really depends on whether we keep masch or perhaps moreso, how much we'll have to pay for him. If the fee is exorbitant, a midfield of stevie, xabi, lucas, momo and perhaps guthrie still looks pretty good to me.
Rich Gobey Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Something in the NOTW about Inter being interested at £10m, we'd be wrong to turn that down.
McBain Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Something in the NOTW about Inter being interested at £10m, we'd be wrong to turn that down. Bonkers price Snap their hands off. After they give us the cheque
Rich Gobey Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Bonkers price Snap their hands off. After they give us the cheque A year ago i'd hope we'd turn it down, now it looks like it would be a gamble that he'd ever reach that level again consistantly. The strength of our midfield cover almost leaves him surplus to requirements anyway. Shame though as he looked like he might go on to be something really special.
David Hodgson Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I think the writing off of Momo is crazy. At his best he is an awesome midfield player. I accept that he hasn't been consistent for a while, but he is very very young still. People are lauding Lucas already, but he has yet to come near Momo's top level.
Atticus Finch Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I also think Xabi's absence has affected Momo. To my mind Sissoko and Alonso complement each other very well as a pair - more so than any other combination you put either in.
Maldini Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I love Momo, but with Lucas coming through, Mascherano's fee to pay and Guthrie, Spearing and Plessis doing well I can see him being let go.
Conor Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I love Momo, but with Lucas coming through, Mascherano's fee to pay and Guthrie, Spearing and Plessis doing well I can see him being let go. My sentiments exactly.. I would love to see Momo at the club for years to come as that would entail him evolving into the player we thought he may become but for me over the last year or so we, as a club, and the players in his position have become too good for his standard,

He's not 'very very young', he's roughly the same age as Mascherano and two years older than Lucas. I'm not writing him off either, but I think turning down a large fee for him would represent a gamble that, with the other options we have at the club, I dont really think is a gamble worth taking. I agree that Momo's top level is very high, but it's been sometime since he played to it consistantly and it remains to be seen if he ever scales those heights again. Personally I think the eye injury he sustained has reduced his vision, he often seems to be unaware of anyone around him and looks chaotic in many situations where he is surrounded by other players. IgPig Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Something in the NOTW about Inter being interested at £10m, we'd be wrong to turn that down. Suggested it was one of the transfers that Rafa was trying to arrange which the owners wouldn't allow.
McBain Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I think the writing off of Momo is crazy. There's nothing wrong with being a Momosexual. A lot of my friends are. But it's not something i go in for myself

redpool Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I do believe he is a quality player and will come good again but we have enough quality midfield players that we can now afford to let him go, get a smashing price for him, and spend it on Mascherano, or some other need.

I accept that he hasn't been consistent for a while, but he is very very young still. People are lauding Lucas already, but he has yet to come near Momo's top level. At his best, Momo is an average passer of the ball. On a normal day, many moves break down due to his sub-standard passing. Two seasons ago, he was an awesome player, and fit perfectly into our developing team. Personally I see him more as a stop gap player, but one who did an excellent job for us. Moreover, we have a team of fighters, all hard workers who will put in the yards but can also play. I suspect Momo would have been a fantastic addition to Roy Evans' Liverpool teams, almost a cure for those away day blues at the likes of Coventry and Wimbledon. This Liverpool team is more than capable of mixing it up physically with the hardest of teams. The past few weeks we have started to play better football due to the return of Kewell and Torres, the emergence of Benayoun and to a lesser extent Babel, and also Stevie's improved form. The little passages of play have been encouraging and effective; triangles and pass and move football. Can't wait for Alonso to be back! If we want to progress then there should be no place in the team for a player who can't pass the ball well, no matter how well he can win the ball back. At least 85% of matches anyway. And especially when we have Mascherano who is able to win tackles almost as well as Momo, and then pass the ball much better.
Guest efcrmagic Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 He's still a bit raw if you ask me, you can see he has something about him but he just needs an arm round his shoulder, wherever he goes I imagine him to have a good career.

At his best he's a good midfield destroyer. His passing is awful. I just don't think he's a top player and wouldn't get near United, Arsenal or Chelsea's teams. Unfortunately for him he never built on the impressive first season. Time to sell on. Agree about Lucas though, way too early to form a fully rounded opinion (Josemi, anyone?) but he does look pretty good so far.
Guest Barne's Rap Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Every team that wins the league has players of the quality of momo as backup...we'd be crazy to sell him 'cos yeah, we have mascherano, gerrard and xabi but what if two get injured at the same time? Strength in depth is whats required to succeed at the highest level these days.
Rimbeux Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Think it is a case of him or Mascherano, economically and in sporting terms. It's hard to justify a keeping players of that age and market value when opportunity is so limited that they struggle to make a matchday 16, even with an injury. Sissoko going would offset a deal of the fee for Mascherano, it's probably a question of if you'd swap Masch for Momo plus £8m.
jimmylibel Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I think he's very much a confidence player and it's got to the stage now where he's worrying about every pass. If he was playing consistantly I'd say he'd get over that eventually but he's not, meaning the pressure to perform when he does get a chance is even greater. I think a move would be as much in Momo's interests as it is ours.
