meredithmathieson Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 So, is there any significance in that the only two players, as far as I am aware, to come out publicly in favour of Rafa since this whole fiasco began are Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres? No Carra; no Stevie G. Discuss. ps Possible Apologies: 1. to Carra & Stevie G, or any others, if they have and I've missed it; 2. if this point has already been raised and I've missed it.
Benitez Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Crouchy has as well. The significance is - they are the ones that where interviewed in the last 2 days. The other significance is - they all can't come out in some mass demonstration even if they wanted to, like the fans can - cos it's their employers that Rafa has had a bit of a strop with The players performances are speaking loud and clear.
M4TTA Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 it would be very silly to come straight out and say we dont want him sacked, only adds to the speculation that it is at the moment. Crouch today did say that they had to carry on winning games for Rafa in the echo. wouldn't read too much into players not saying anything. 2 reasons imo, 1) They should be concentrating on playing well, training well and doing the job on the field that can keep the manager in a job.2) There boss has been told to concentrate on training and the games ahead, it shouldn't be any different to a player.
Hassony Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Gerrard wants him sacked as he is not a natural supporter of Rafa
meredithmathieson Posted November 30, 2007 Author Posted November 30, 2007 So, if three of the players have come out with positive statements in support of Rafa, presumably any of them can? And if we are saying that these three are the only three players to be interviewed by any section of the media since the story broke , I find it very difficult to believe that the other players, particularly Carra and Steven Gerrard, couldn't have made similar statements if they wished. The press surely would have been knocking at their doors - or mobiles - for a quote from either of them. Not pointing any fingers here, just think that it looks a bit odd.
CarraLegend Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I think the players have done their talking hammering 7 goals and working their b******s off in the last 2 games. Which is the way it should be.
Benitez Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 haha, you want to go work for the gutter press I think! What better can they do, than get the job done on the pitch?
lfc4eva99 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 During the GH times, when things were up against him, Stevie used the pitch to deliver his message, remember Levski Sofia at Anfield, Gerrard scored with a left footer from the edge of the area and ran all the way to hug GH on the touchline... Id rather the lads kept their noses out of this and beat Bolton and then the next team we face, its better we keep this run of form going on because December can be a defining month in our season with many important games coming thick and fast, a good run not only ideally keeps benitez in a job here, it also gets us closer to our first real title challenge since roy evans wasnt it?

Why on earth would you come out and say "hey f*** you, if he goes i go and the lads are comming with me". Not that tone maybe, but you get my drift. The best way and i'll say it again, the best way they can show rafa support is to give him results on the pitch! who's to say the press haven't asked the question and the players have declined to comment?
Rimbeux Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 (edited) As far as I can tell, only Reina actually said something along the lines of a message of support. Torres made a comment about the support of the fans for the manager, that they love him above the players (quote interpreted wrongly imo by a few hacks as the players loving Rafa too). It has been rightly, get on with business, last thing needed was a suspicion the manager was levering his players out in support of him, dont think for a second that's correct behaviour whatever the situation. Players show support by giving their best on the pitch. Edited November 30, 2007 by Rimbeux
Guest Kaizer Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Gerrard wants him sacked as he is not a natural supporter of Rafa I remember that one as well. The only real backing he has got though comes from Mascherano the way I see it.
Molby Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 closer to our first real title challenge since roy evans wasnt it?
Andy Mac Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 This sort of thing really annoys me. More people comment, the more momentum an issue gets, divisiveness, second guessing. I'm glad the majority of players have chosen to keep schtum. Let all those no nothing, no-marks who watch soocer am and sing who are ya , chirrup away !!! All I know is I heard a bloke who feels passionately for his team speak out when he felt he was being held back and I saw a team of players celebrate like crazy when we won in midweek. As well as this I saw loads of fans rally around the manager and players. No other comments needed in my opinion !!
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 The clip's not working on my computer but apparently Crouch tells Football Focus the players are all behind Rafa. http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/sol/newsid_71...s=1&bbcws=1
Guest tea Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 (edited) I'm sure Rafa has told all his players just to concentrate on their footy!!! The last thing we need coming into the busy Christmas period is the players getting sidetracked (more than they are at present). Its amazing how people on here start analyzing something and it gets blown out of proportion. Soon the headlines will be "Gerrard wants Rafa sacked'!! Edited December 1, 2007 by tea
mooks Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 I'm sure Rafa has told all his players just to concentrate on their footy!!!Indeed he has
Tones Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Yeah i think the more of this can be done behind closed doors the better. Too out in the open and that leads to press manipulation of the story.
