Liverpool co-Chairmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks have today released the following statement.

"Despite speculation in today's newspapers, there is nothing new to say.

"We had a good win yesterday and have got some very important games coming up starting with Porto on Wednesday, followed by Bolton and Reading, before Marseille and Manchester United in a few weeks.

"Both of us, together with Chief Executive Rick Parry, plan to meet with Rafa when we come over mid December to make decisions on the team's requirements at that time."

Eases some tension.

It could be too late to discuss this in December, these deals are all done before January and the window is there to rubber stamp what was previously agreed.

Rafa has a hell of a job and when an international break presents itself then he can turn his attention away from his 1st team and look at targets.

It must grate on Rafa to try and do this around Christmas when he is planning a hectic programme and any free time I am sure he would like to spend with his family - not ideal to be juggling transfers which are likely to be more difficult because we are entering the game so late
