Archangel Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 McLarens failure is more of a failure of the system than of mclaren we're stuck to 442 why? we love the long balls why? we cant keep possesion why? we bottle it under pressure why? These are not mclarens faults except for his inability to deal with them and in fairness, better coaches than him have failed the same in the past we dont learn - the fa and a paranoid invasive sensationalist press have as much responsibility for this debacle
John am Rhein Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 we love the long balls why? It works. Not at international level maybe, but certainly at the level players learn the game and, in many cases, the level at which they play it. we cant keep possesion why? Lack of skill we bottle it under pressure why? Human nature we dont learn - the fa and a paranoid invasive sensationalist press have as much responsibility for this debacle If you mean because no sensible manager of the necessary standard would touch the job with a barge-pole, then I think you're right.
Rich Gobey Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 There is a lot of crap talked about the long ball, watching the South American qualifiers the long ball is used repeatedly. every so often it gets mixed up with some great passing and flair but plenty of hoofing on show. Englands problem is the abject failure to retain possession of the ball. Gerrard looked like he was playing playground 'ball tag' in the game last night. Beckhams legs have gone, the defending was Div 2 standard and the midfield utterly lacking in belief and guile. Crouch was far and away our best player last night, but had no one in front of him to link with. As for Carson... f***ing hell, i'm suprised he didnt let in a shot between that Terry Thomas gap in his teeth. If we get £10m for him then Benitez will be pishing himself.
