Chewie Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Jan is looming and the talk has centred around three players...Carson who's gone, Crouch who looks like he's going and Momo... If Carson goes we do seem to have cover so no like for like needed there.... If Crouch goes people are saying that Babel will get more time up front....if that's the case that represents two completely different approached to how we play football...In the past few games we have used a variety of players with quality on the ball (notably at full back) and also Benni, Babel, Kewell, Voronin, Torres and Crouch has not looked out of place (whereas Dirk has....) - I reckon this is actually quite a big decision.... then there's Momo - sorry but Gerrard, Momo, Alonso, Masch and Lucas just won't all fulfill their playing potential if they stay...it's just one too many (even with the African Nations Cup coming up)...it seems the decision to pursue the option in Masch's contract looms ever near and I for one would be satisified if we had to sell Momo for 12 - 15 mil if it meant keeping Masch... any other takers....? Chewie
Rory Fitzgerald Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Yes. Momo's passing needed to improve and it hasn't. When we are competing against teams that are on a par with us or better then he is a good player to have around as he can hunt the ball down. But the great majority of games are against teams that are poorer than us and we needed people who can play football and Mascherano is a better footballer. Momo would be great for a mid table team as he would be playing against teams that have better players than his team and his all action style would win them alot of balls and stop alot of attacks, but with Liverpool, we need players that make things happen on the ball and not someone destructive.
Flanders Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Yes.We won't get 12-15 mil for him, why would someone pay that much? 8m tops because he is still very raw and is surplus to requirements.
Benitez Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 there's 2 or 3 players I'd gladly see sold to keep Mascher
Rimbeux Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 In a heartbeat, and it would likely be something like we paid for him.
The_MC Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 I'd keep Mascherano over Sissoko without question. Im starting to prefer Masch ahead of Alonso even, he just allows our attacking players so much freedom. I also think Lucas looks a real talent, making Sissoko expendable. As great as Momo is at breaking down attacks and destroying teams' rythm, Masch can do the same job but he can actually do something with the ball once he's won it (rather than just pass it out for a throwin as Momo tends to do). Love Momo, but the team has progressed past him i think. What i do find a little strange is that some reports are linking us with Javi Martinez. Why would we buy another centre midfield player, even if we lose Momo? Unless Gerrard is gonna be shifted back onto the right, i cant see why we would need more cover for the middle when theres more obvious positions in the team that need to be addressed. Martinez wouldnt come cheap either, so i suspect there isnt much truth to the reports.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 I like Momo, but his recent form has been horrible. With Gerrard, Xabi & Mash around, he's not going to get in thew team alongside them & he's not likely to replace one without injuries (plural). So, I would. Don't think Crouch is going anywhere
Gunga Din Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 we could end up with a few quid being brought in come January. Carson, Crouch, Momo and a few fringe and younger players could see upwards of £30mil being raised. it could be a busy January for us in the transfer market
Guest Kaizer Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 2007/08:With Momo in the team:11 matches: 8 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss7 starts: 4 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss4 sub apps: 4 wins, 0 draws, 0 lossesWithout Momo in the team:9 matches: 3 wins, 5 draws, 1 lossOverall:20 matches: 11 wins, 7 draws, 2 losses
Rory Fitzgerald Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Keep Momo as the impact sub I say !!
Guest Kaizer Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Keep Momo as the impact sub I say !! Like I said in the other thread, he is great to throw on when we want to protect a lead, in Momo`s 15 sub apps for the club we have won 12, drawn 2 and only lost 1.
hideNseek Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 I'd sell Momo, Risse, Kuyt and Voronin before Crouch.

There is certainly some value in that statement but perhaps his market value would allow us to receive funds great enough to purchase someone that will offer more than that ?
Magic8Ball Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 (edited) Hell YES its time we took advantage of the market values of Crouch, Carson and Momo -- that lot could fetch over 30m which would allow us to get Mash, Kompany and Garay which would sort out both the DM positions and the back CH position. So next summer we could focus primarily on the attack and cover for LB once we sell Riise Edited November 17, 2007 by Magic8Ball
Guest petelfc Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 (edited) I'd like to know what Rafa's net spend is post January. Not sure there's ever been a time when we've made so much profit on players. Very impressive. Edited November 17, 2007 by petelfc
McBain Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 we could end up with a few quid being brought in come January. Carson, Crouch, Momo and a few fringe and younger players could see upwards of £30mil being raised. it could be a busy January for us in the transfer market We'll once again be one the if not the most busy clubs in the market. But with Crouch and Momo we'll get much less than we would have (of) in the summer Add in the potential sale of Carson and Riise and we could potentially bring in more like £40m
Rimbeux Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Independent is running a line that Rowfa has to sell some to spend any, and that we've initiated an auction for Crouch Visit a Paper
John am Rhein Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 it seems the decision to pursue the option in Masch's contract looms ever near and I for one would be satisified if we had to sell Momo for 12 - 15 mil if it meant keeping Masch... I agree with that, but ideally I'd like to keep both players. However, i think Mascherano is one of the best players we have - possibly even THE best player we have and we really should do everything in our power to hold onto him. Also, the January transfer window is almosrt certainly not the best time to be selling Sissiko - who'd want him with the African tournament on the horizon?
Guest petelfc Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Meh. I wouldn't be that fussed if both left.
D.Boon Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Like I said in the other thread, he is great to throw on when we want to protect a lead, in Momo`s 15 sub apps for the club we have won 12, drawn 2 and only lost 1. I think it may have more to do with he comes on when we are in the lead. Hence we tend to win most of those games
Guest Kaizer Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 I think it may have more to do with he comes on when we are in the lead. Hence we tend to win most of those games More to do with? Did I not say he was great to use when we wanted to protect a lead, what do you think that means?
John am Rhein Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 More to do with? Did I not say he was great to use when we wanted to protect a lead, what do you think that means? How many of the 15 matches you were talking about entailed Sissoko coming on with us in the lead?
