Boca Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 A bit surprised he decided to speak out. Quote Steven Gerrard has given his backing to the prospect of a quota system limiting the number of foreign players in the Premier League. I think there is a risk that there are too many foreign players coming over, which will affect our national team eventually, if it's not doing so now," Gerrard told a press conference on Sky Sports News. "I'm sure it (a quota) will definitely help our national team, if that's the case, and we want as many home grown players playing in the league as possible. Suffer "As an England player we want top players involved in the squad and I'm sure that will help. "I'm all for getting good English players through. It is important that we keep producing. "I think it is pointless having the best league in the world if our national team is going to suffer in the long run." Sky
honourablegeorge Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 That quota system is a flat out stupid idea.

This quota s***e was inevitable once we failed to qualify for the Euros. Blame the foreigner syndrome innit? Edited November 14, 2007 by DarkBailo
realtarragona Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 If you thought English players were over-priced now...
cymrococh Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 It's the stupidest idea ever. How will having fewer foreigners make English people better at football? It, quite literally, makes no sense.

It would only be relevant if we couldn't find 23 players to fill a squadI don't see how playing a load of English players who aren't good enough to get in the squad is going to help those who are.

Notice the similarities...

It, quite literally, makes no sense. All it will achieve is allowing more mediocre players to play for the top clubs. Your top class players get in the side regardless of nationality. There seems to be some notion that suggests top class young talent can't get a game because of foreigners. It is blatantly not the case.

You are just less likely to be swindled by a Polish person working for his family to survive, then a cockney cowboy, who charges you £8,000 for a wall to be built. Edited November 14, 2007 by Ant
