liverbird04 Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Check out tonight's Eastenders to see how much disdain the BBC has for Liverpool. Minty was talking about some manchester bloke being part of a 'firm' and mentioned heysel and Hillsborough in the same sentence in terms of the firms causing trouble, it confused me as what his point was.....anyone else help me out here?, thought I'd see it mentioned actually, it was just really random.

I'm pretty sure he said that Heysel led onto Hillsborough, and that peopled died because of the fencing. I may well be wrong though. Couldnt quite see what the connection was though Edited November 13, 2007 by roegahnn

Raj Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 You're probably right, I wasn't paying too much attention to the TV when it was on, so may have misheard what was said
Guest petelfc Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 You wasn't paying attention, but you're pretty sure of what he said?
Raj Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 You wasn't paying attention, but you're pretty sure of what he said? Read the original post. I said I may have been wrong. Maybe you should pay attention.
Guest petelfc Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Whatever the distinction was, making the link was pointless and out of order. All the viewing public will hear is Heysel and Hillsborough in the same context.

Couldnt quite see what the connection was though"MINTY : I once saw a row on a train two firms, horrible. I'm a big bloke and not alot bothers me but it was terrifying women and kids and all caught up in it,them two firms all beered up kicking and punching and they didn't care who got in their way aren't you ashamed of that" JASON : " I wasn't there..... " MINTY : " 5 years out of Europe cos of Heysel cos they penned you in, to stop you fighting on the pitch so then what do we end up with Hillsborough" JASON : "Heysel Hillsborough both those tragedies broke my heart what we got up to was a world apart, only people who wanted to be there were there.... " MINTY : "what possible pleasure could you get out of that ?"

None of them even close to what was actually said it seems!
Cobs Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 and always through Minty.where else would you turn for such public pronouncements once Dr. Legg is no longer in the show?
Guest petelfc Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) Can't say I'm surprised to see the media apologists turn up again, even for a subject as sensitive as this. They'll be telling me next that the BEEB were justifed in reapeatedly hiring Mckenzie, that verminous c***rag and hater of all things Liverpool. Edited November 14, 2007 by petelfc

johngibo YPC Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Can't say I'm surprised to see the media apologists turn up again, even for a subject as sensitive as this. Are people who print the transcript media apologists?

They'll be telling me next that the BEEB were justifed in reapeatedly hiring Mckenzie, that verminous c***rag and hater of all things Liverpool. it was clumsy, bringing Hillsborough into a conversation about hooliganism, but we should try to be proportional in our reaction
TheLa Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 it's a soap opera, you dumb penis. Doesn't f***ing matter. End of the day it's completely inaccurate, insensitive and has no place on any programme, let alone f***ing Eastenders. The general jist of of it is a f***ing cockney and a manc talking about football hooliganism implying that Heysel led to the football authorities putting fencing up which, in turn, led to Hillsborough. Complete f***ing b******s.
sean Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 it was clumsy, bringing Hillsborough into a conversation about hooliganism, but we should try to be proportional in our reaction I agree, otherwise the point becomes diluted.

Complete f***ing b******s.well, i don't watch soaps but i fail to see how a fictional character making an error of fact in an episode of a soap opera is evidence of the BBC (or whichever broadcaster) showing disdain for Liverpool. Lazy script-writing, maybe.
Guest petelfc Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Fair enough. It was just a soap opera with millions watching. I'm sure they all made the clear distinction.
