Guest RedIsMyColour Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Gerrard does very well.Kuyt can take one well, as can Alonso and Kewell. Babel maybe? I wouldn't trust Torres even though he is immense.
Knox_Harrington Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I'd have Kewell. Weirdly I also think Arbeloa would be good.
_00_deathscar Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Alonso would be my first choice, followed by Kuyt and then Kewell.
sutty Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Gerrard does very well.Kuyt can take one well, as can Alonso and Kewell. Babel maybe? I wouldn't trust Torres even though he is immense. Gerrard is a mediocre peno taker
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Gerrard is a mediocre peno taker He puts more away than he misses. Rooney is a mediocre penalty taker not Gerrard.
Knox_Harrington Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 He puts more away than he misses. That can't be your criteria. Surely? If someone had taken 20 pens and missed 3 I'd say they were mediocre.
Woodsyla Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Gerrard is a mediocre peno taker I think he has improved immensely, he definitely WAS mediocre but his penalties lately have been good. Kuyt showed in the Derby he's got the composure. Either he or Gerrard will be on the pitch 90% of the time so it's unlikely we need to look any further. I reckon Lucas will be good at them
Guest Jude Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I think Carra would plant a few in the onion bag given the chance.
Sion Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Weirdly I also think Arbeloa would be good. He wouldn't be able to jump on himself if he scored though
Foo Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Pepepepepepepepe Reina. For some unknown reason.
_00_deathscar Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 He wouldn't be able to jump on himself if he scored though Cf. His goal vs Reading last season. Hadn't a clue how to celebrate...
John am Rhein Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Torres should take penalties because that will help him get 20 League goals in the season which means we will win the League! (where's that jester hat smiley gone?)
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 That can't be your criteria. Surely? If someone had taken 20 pens and missed 3 I'd say they were mediocre. 17 out of 20 is nowhere near mediocre. Thats a very good penalty scoring Ratio.
crisps Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I reckon Yossi would be handy as well ...although he'd probably turn it into a through ball
Rory Fitzgerald Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Sign Danny Murphy - I never had a doubt when he stepped up to the spot. The great thing with him was that he was confident enough to aim high for the corners.
StevieC Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 (edited) 17 out of 20 is nowhere near mediocre. Thats a very good penalty scoring Ratio. It's decent but very good? For very good see Van Nistelroy (until that importnant f*ck up against Arsenal) and Matt Le Tissier- 1 in 49 missed I think! Like what Rory said about Danny Murphy and the way he put the ball up- Ziege and Lothar Matthaus used to do that and rarely missed. Edited November 11, 2007 by StevieC

Knox_Harrington Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Didn't Van Nistelrooy miss 3 in a row once for the Mancs? He always put them in the same place and everyone got onto it. A good or very good penalty taker really shouldn't miss more than one in twenty. There's a place you can put them where it's literally unstoppable. Murphy had it down to a fine art. It's all mental. The Chorleyman was always an excellent penalty taker despite being unable to pass it ten yards.
lawrie Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Kuyt if he's on the pitch, if not I'd go with Gerrard, he's really improved at them lately. I reckon Babel could be good in the future but wouldn't trust him just yet.
Guest Kaizer Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I think Voronin and Aurelio would do good, Riise is a good penalty taker as well, even if he missed in Istanbul, but that was down to an excellent save.
Woodsyla Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 He always put them in the same place and everyone got onto it. I'd been saying it for years, used to really f*** me off when the keeper went the wrong way.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Gerrard would have missed yesterday's if it'd still been 0-0. I don't have confidence in him. He'd have had the pressure of 3 points & spunked it. The Derby game too. I think Torres would be a good penno taker. Based on absolutely nothing apart from he knows where the goal is
