mathewbet1 Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Manchester United have beaten Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for 14-year-old Burnley striker John Cofie and agreed an undisclosed fee with the Clarets. Burnley rejected a reported £250,000 bid from Liverpool for Cofie this week. But the German-born Ghanaian refused to return to training with the Clarets and they agreed he could leave Turf Moor. Burnley have inserted a 25% sell-on clause in the deal, which also gives them first refusal on any loan deal and a future friendly match with United. It will be three years before Cofie can sign professional terms at Old Trafford and the friendly game will take place within 12 months of that. "The player was unwilling to come back to Burnley so we didn't have a choice in keeping him here," Burnley operational director Brendan Flood told his club's website. "He was going to go to one of the clubs chasing his signature and in the end, we all felt that Manchester United was the right option. "He has a good future ahead of him and hopefully we can try and keep youngsters of John's quality at the club in future." I thought we had him in the bag oh well looks like be got out bid.......he'll go s***e once his balls drop

floyd the barber Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 the odds of him making him are slim to nothing....not to be cruel, but the record with signings those so young generally ends in failure......very,very few make it
floyd Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 (edited) Dave Usher broke this yesterday. liverpool way John Bostock is meant to be quite special though. Edited November 10, 2007 by floyd
Magic8Ball Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I would guess there's a huge risk of a 14 year old not being successful, so I wouldn't be too worried about thisI would be more worried if we were missing out on the 17+ talented players because if they are exceptionally talented at that agethey should make at least good squad players or be capable of being sold on at a reasonable profit
kop205 Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 My mate is a PE teacher at a British Army school in Germany and one of his sides came up against this lad in match about 18 months back. He told me a few months ago he heard he was now at Burnley but that we were linked. He said he was brilliant and scored about 8 goals in the game he saw, but that first and foremost he was just a fantastic athlete - so much quicker and stronger than those he was playing against, who were all s*** scared of him too. He may turn out to be one that got away. He may turn out to be Cherno Samba.
TheLa Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Complete lack of ambition on our part. I thought things would change when the Yanks took over but obviously they haven't
Guest sniffer Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Wasn't this Cofie supposed to be a Reds fan?
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 absolutely, there should be a protest at the game today. Call for the manager's head, it's not acceptable

Zoob Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Dave Usher broke this yesterday. liverpool way John Bostock is meant to be quite special though. I know very little about Bostock, but I would absolutely love it if we signed him, just because of how much it would annoy Neil Warnock.
