Tobes Rafa Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Should it really really bother me when commentators/presenters continually pronounce players' names wrong? It irritates me as much as the forum favourite they're/their/there etc. First of all we had the presenter on ITV (sorry don't know his name) calling Arbeloa, Ar-bee-leo then we have to listen to David Platt continually calling Benayoun, Ben-ya-noon. See what I did there? It winds me up, it really does.
Maldini Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I hate it when people get names wrong △△△△△△△
charlie clown Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Pleat's a past master at it. Prolly means he can't read. Slighty off topic but the boxing commentator wound me the other night - Joe Calzakky was fighting apparently.

ifanew Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Think Pleat gave up towards the end of the game and kept calling Yossi 'The Isreali' instead of Benny Noone. I found it more amusing than annoying, but it did grate that when Yossi scored, Pleat kept commenting that he hoped he saved some goals for the game against Russia. Who gives a f*ck.

Zoob Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Nearly every commentator used to call Don Hutchison Hutchinson. That used to drive me mad. And Phil Neal continually gets names wrong when he's co comentator on the Offal. Rit-za (Riise) is the one that irks the most...
Buttles Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 It was almost as if he was doing it for a bet and then you remembered that it was David Pleat. Yossi scored a hatrick and had his best game in red so it wasn't as if Pleat hadn't heard his name pronounced correctly all evening.

Tones Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Pleat also used to say Jamie Carriage-r. Not the best at names i guess.

Every single match report I've read today has mentioned that, un-f***ing-believable how they work it in anywhere they can...
nvdm Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Gary Bailey (the t***) pronounces Benayoun Ben-wa-neen.

Rich Gobey Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Ironically, for all of Pleats mispronounciations, he's the only co-comentator thats worth listening too, his tactical insight and reading of the game is generally spot on.

Nerik Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Whenever Pleat is commentating a game that features a Crouch-Kuyt partnership they morph into a player called Kraut (I think he refers to Dirk as Krout).
Dan Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Craig Johnston was on 5 Live this morning and made a right hash of it. Firstly referred to Carra as Steve Carragher and then said as far as he was concerned both Carra and Gerrard were the back bone of the England team!
