m4ttc Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 For me, Kuyt has very little to offer. With all due respect, industry and hard work is the Minimum we should get from every player. Kuyt has no pace, a poor touch, not inventive or intelligent and not a particularly good finisher when he manages to get into the box. With most strikers you can usually put them into some sort of bracket such as quick, clever, a good finisher, good in the air or even hold the ball up well but with Kuyt yhe is none with the exception that he is honest. This for me is the only thing that puts him ahead of Shaun 'Mick' Dundee or even Paul Stewart. In fact I's sooner have fellow dutchman 'Mad' Eric Meijer I dont think I am being unfair here but I have watched him very closely in games this season (not on TV) and he is very poor. At Wigan, some of the positions he took up were unbelievable to say the least. Nice bloke he maybe be but I think we need to cut our losses IMHO Sorry for being negative
floyd the barber Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 negative and i disagree with all of your post.
Sion Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 He's a good player. Shouldn't be more than third choice mind.
floyd the barber Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 alongside torres as a proper front two partnership.....hes fantastic, this is surely proven by results at the begining of the season...also as the games went on you could really see the potential in this... Think he is a fantastic link man...works his b****x off and deserves some more respect from our fans
McBain Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Rafa's record with strikers is worrying in the exteme
Digger Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 We could have gotten so much better for the money we paid for him. He's just plain uselss, slow, poor touch, the same could have been said abut Rushie but Rushie knew where the goal was and how to get there
TheLa Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 He's just plain uselss, slow, poor touch, the same could have been said abut Rushie but..... You'd be talking complete s****.
Cisse Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Rafa's record with strikers is worrying in the exteme A combined 35m for Torres, Kuyt, Crouch and Voronin. To me that's excellent business and probably one of the best strike-forces in Europe.
meepins Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Kuyts passing and touch have not been good lately, but to say he has no invention or football intelligence is laughable.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 At times like this, I'm ashamed of some of our fans
floyd the barber Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 lets not forget that hes been told to do a job last few games.....basically is being used for his work-horse type than his striking....thats his biggest downfall as it allows rafa to play him deeper or out wide to out battle the other side... if only rafa would let our lads play.........and not be so protective and worried about the other side, it works ok in europe(ok maybe not this season) but in the premiership, you have to play your own game
m4ttc Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 At times like this, I'm ashamed of some of our fansI think I am entitled to my opinion. As I said, I do not like posting negative posts but I cannot see what he offers other than industry. From the short life of this post, it is plain to see that supporters are very split over his merits. Forums are about posting opinions good or bad. Saying that every player is good is nore more valid than saying every player is bad. I base my views on 32 + years of watching LFC so I think I am entitled to a view

smicer07 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Yeah, those 2 pens in the Derby last weekend were f***ing s*** too.

At Wigan, some of the positions he took up were unbelievable to say the least. Nice bloke he maybe be but I think we need to cut our losses IMHO Sorry for being negative No need to apologise for being negative - you'd be better off apologising for being wrong on most of the points you've made and the ridiculous comparisons to the likes of Meijer which just make you look like a bit of a plonker. You started off quite correctly, he's not quick. After that it went swiftly downhill. 'Kuyt has no pace, a poor touch, not inventive or intelligent and not a particularly good finisher when he manages to get into the box'. I don't really know where to start with that. OK, you say you've been studying his play intently so here's a question for you which is how often so you actually see him get into the box at the moment? Pretty damn rarely I'd say, in fact since the Villa game I've hardly seen him in the opposition half. This is a guy who won the European Golden Boot twice, and he's playing as a midfielder (something he hasn't got the ability to do as anything but a desperation stop gap in my opinion). As for his touch, I'd describe it as erratic. Sometimes he loses concentration, but at other times his touch and ability to shield the ball are top class. He did that extremely well around the area in his early games for us, however these days he seems to get the ball mostly around the half way line in situations where you'd like the player to run at the defender but (as you so astutely pointed out earlier) he hasn't got the pace to do so. In terms of football brain he's a very intelligent footballer and excellent at bringing other players into the game; the problem is that he's being used in positions in which it's not his job to do so. The irony of your post is that you've largely pointed out his positives and called them negatives. He's intelligent, holds the ball up well and is a very good if uncomplicated finisher when given the chance, as proven by his scoring record in Holland and the fact that in his first season in England he was the first striker to score over ten Premier League goals for us since Rafa became manager. The enormous problem at present (which you somehow seem to be missing) is that he's one of a number of players being horribly misused. Kuyt is a dreadful option out wide with his lack of pace, he's totally pointless out there. He's also not great as a very deep link man (he is good at bringing others into the game further up the field), because he's not extravagantly skilful, and his partnership with Voronin is one of the most incompatible I've ever seen. Any player being used in a position in which their skills aren't useful is going to disappoint. Watch Villa away or Everton away which were two of very few games in which he's played high up the pitch and you'll see what he does well in terms of hold up and link play around the box, and there are plenty of examples of his finishing ability early in his career here before he inexplicably became a midfielder. Kuyt should be banging on Rafa's door and telling him to play him as a striker because a striker is what he is. Quite frankly, being too honest and willing to play out of position could be the ruin of him here. He's been largely ineffective for us this season, but I'm sick of seeing brainless criticisms like yours which are mostly way off the mark and miss the real issue. If you want to see where the problem lies with Kuyt, have a word with our manager who much though I love him seems to be suffering from temoprary insanity with his recent team selections and substitutions. Benzo-13 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I'd like to see DK play on the heels of the opposition centre-backs again. Hasn't played in his proper position in ages. Ship him out?? Mad! Though him and Voronin shouldn't be on the same pitch ever.
RP Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I'd like to see DK play on the heels of the opposition centre-backs again. Wouldn't he be offside?

Knox_Harrington Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Wouldn't he be offside?Depends which way they are facing. He'd be onside as long as Riise was supplying the passing.
sutty Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Not you specifically, you backed your opinion up. Too many people offer nothing but b******s though I've seen him loads and I think there are serious question marks against him. I gave him the benefit of the doubt last season because he deserves time. I've been so disappointed with him this year.
