Transfer window in January

I know it's still a couple of months away, but I can't wait till the January transfer window opens and the possibility of adding to our squad, even though not that much business is generally done during the window.

 

The question is, what do we need? And do we need to get rid of (as opposed to waiting to the summer)?

 

With Crouchy's relationship with Rafa being frosty at best, I can't see him wanting to stick around, so we may need another striker (linked with Alfonso Alves a couple of weeks ago). Finally getting rid of Riise?

 

With regards to Harry sicknote, isn't he free to talk to other clubs in January?

 

We should have brought in a central defender in the summer when Paletta left, as the writing was on the wall for Sami (who has been a magnificient servant btw). So this is a must.

 

Do we go for a stop gap or try to find another Agger, as Carra is not getting any younger. Richards was mentioned in another thread, but don't think there's feck all chance considering the crazy money that'll be asked.

 

I still think we are short of wingers that would give us some cutting edge up front. Who though? No doubt Kaizer will mention Quaresma. I'd be happy with one that can play comfortably on both flanks.

 

This will all depend on Rafa's budget of course and what money we can get from any potential sales.

 

Apart from Torres, was disappointed with our business in the summer and think we are paying the price of it now (another subject altogether).

Cover at fullback (these 2 may be one and the same)

Cover for Torres (if Crouch isn't going to play)

 

The problem with this question is that until I really understand what Babel and Benayoun are doing in the squad, I have no idea whether we actually need wide players

I think we need a left winger, a left back, a centre back and a striker.

 

Kewell is as good as gone, Riise is probably going to be moved on, Sami is over the hill these days and Crouch will probably move as well.

I think we need a flat track bully, someone like Quaresma i think would improve us greatly against most teams in the PL. If Crouch is gone, use Babel as the 4th striker (plus backup out wide) and lets sign a proper winger like Quaresma thats very confident on the ball and will occupy 2 defenders without losing it

I wouldn't go that far but i have to wonder what some of the players are doing in the squad if they aren't being used when required.

 

I'd also start playing Insua or someone at centre back if Agger isn't ready. Sami is too slow. He'll go down as one of our great players but his time has past.

i know it won't realistically happen but really players like hyypia, riise, crouch, kuyt, voronin, pennant and sissoko all need to go. None of them are liverpool class and while having too many of these in our starting 11 we are never going to win the league.

 

We don't need to replace sissoko as we have levia and i'd like to give babel a run of games just to give him a proper chance to see if he can make it at RM. We would need backup for aurelio with riise gone and id give arbeloa a run at RB as finnan as looked dodgy lately. There are plenty of good strikers out there, henry being one as it looks like he's not happy there and they aren't happy with him. Put him up front with torres and let them run havok. Maybe a sneaky bid for mancini as kewell will most probably be leaving on a free and then its a case of getting 2 backup strikers. I'd give our youth players a try. Lets d an arsenal and try to bed in more youth.
