Jiggy Hates Jazz Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I know he's been poor this season but I don't understand the vitriol that he has been subjected to onm internet fora recently. This is the same Momo that looked invincible at the beginning of last season (I still remember the look on Ballack's face in the Charity Shield when he came up against Sissoko for the first time!) and he's still a young lad - plenty of time for him recover his form and develop into a cracking player.
realtarragona Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 He's slagged off because he's been absolute garbage this season. This old excuse of 'people need a scapegoat' seems the standard defence for anyone who's criticised. Sissoko, Riise, Hyypia, Pennant...
The Hitman Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 To be honest though, what's the worst you've ever seen Pennant play. He's never been anything worse than average, and has occasionally been very good. He's the least of our problems, and will do a job.

He's been a poor mans Biscan this season. Being made a Scapegoat normally has a lot to do with being a poor player, which the above mentioned are (Hyppia is 2-3 yrs over the hill at this stage)

I would say he has never been anything better than average, he is simply not good enough, 1 goal in 63 matches from an attacking player is so tragic you have to laugh, including pre-season matches where he also off course has failed to score it would be even worse.

growler Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 personally, i was never a fan, and never understood why we needed him. I would have sold him if juve were serious for 12 mil.
PhilM Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 People are slagging him because he's been pish. It's not that hard to figure out.
TheLa Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Sissoko's only been slightly s***tier than Mascherano this season. Both have been guilty of the same s****; give the ball away, win it back then give the ball away again, but Mascherano seems to get away with it. I've no doubt both Mascherano and Sissoko are good players but neither have performed consistantly well this season. Personally I think "Best Midfield in the World" is a cursed song and should be dropped.
Beardsley Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Momo hasn't been anywhere near his best this season, but neither has Carrager - and he's not getting the amount of abuse, so I guess it's one rule for OOT's players and a different set of rules for "your own"? It really is tiresome.

Momo has been a lot worse than Javier, who himself hasn't played well at all. Add to this the fact that Gerrard has been struggling for form and the injury to Xabi adn you have to wonder if we should have used Lucas more.

crisps Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Anyone who thinks Pennant has been good for us without a doubt needs their head testing. He's had one average 1/3 a season and in that 2 or 3 games where he's looked ok. Still no where near good enough for us. basically he is schite.

Jimi Rojo Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I've been one of his biggest critics but my problem really is with Rafa not Sissoko. We all know what Sissoko brings to a team and we all know he cant pass to save his life. i'm disappointed with Rafa's insistence on breaking up opponents play when for 6 weeks now we havent been able to play a simple passing game, retaining the ball - they look like a load of strangers out there. Surely you concentrate on being able to play yourself before you go out to smash other teams up. The 'Win it back, give it away' game - dont understand it and dont like it. Mascherano has been disappointing, he's another spoiler essentially, but we have seem immense games from him for Argentina and we know what he's capable of. For me Sissoko has very real limitations, but its Rafa who picks him.
Ronnie Whelan Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Did I miss the memo that labelled Momo an attacking player?
Nebraska Red Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Sissoko has been awful thise season other than the game against Sunderland. His inability to make even the simplest pass on a consistent basis is unbelieveable. I fail to see what our manager finds in his game that makes him a starter in any Liverpool team. As for Mascherano, the lad has been playing footy almost non stop this year with little or no break. He needs a rest and will get one when Alonso comes back.
Molby Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 And stupid. Makes me think of the Houllier quote... whatever it was. 'Do not burn today what you worshipped yesterday' I seem to use that quote on a weekly basis along with 'you cannot program success, only prepare for it'
cymrococh Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 'Do not burn today what you worshipped yesterday'What if it's a Golden calf?
Guest Kaizer Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 So he was average in the Chamions League final - what utter garbage!!! No he did not reach that level in the Champions League final, he was poor there, saw a lot of the ball and absolutely f*** all came off it as usual.
Guest Kaizer Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 including pre season matches??f***ing hell mate you don't do yourself any favours Pre-season matches was not included, but he has not scored there either, just for the record.
