Why Arsenal will thrash Liverpool at Anfield

By Myles Palmer

On Sunday, Arsenal play Liverpool at Anfield.

I can't wait !

OK, Man United will be a different story on Saturday, November 3. They are exciting, penetrating, prolific, a team with an attack that generates a lot of ideas, pace and momentum.

Liverpoool are very dull compared to Man United and Arsenal. They don't have ideas or pace or momentum.

They lost 2-1 to Besiktas last night and that puts them bottom of Group A, without a win in three CL games.

Rafa was asked if they could win their next three games and, amazingly, he said, "If we play like today, for sure."

WHAT ? If they play like they did against Besiktas they will lose all three games !!

What is he talking about? His team is a shambles. Carragher and Hyypia are all over the place and Hyypia has scored own-goals in consecutive games. Voronin and Kuyt were hopeless as a pair, made the same runs, never got in the box, feeble and peripheral, with little service.

Arsenal have won their last 12 games and have just beaten Slavia Prague 7-0. It doesn't matter that Arsenal could not have beaten Besiktas 7-0 or Schalke 7-0 or Marseilles 7-0.What matters in that Arsenal are on a high and Liverpool are in tatters. The game is all about confidence. Football, said Ossie Ardiles, is 90% confidence.

I hope Arsene plays Theo Walcott. The lad is better half-striker than he is a winger. Walcott will have to play at Anfield every year for the rest of his career, so he might as well start on Sunday.

Poor old Rafa is in denial. He's spent millions and has little to show for it. He will be hoping Fernando Torres is fit for Sunday. Torres might beat Toure and bang it in the bottom corner, but only if he plays. And even if Torres does play, I still strongly fancy Arsenal to win at Anfield.

Brazilians played leading roles in the Champions League tonight.

In Istanbul, striker Bobo flashed into a ball, leaving Hyypia for dead, and nutmegged Reina for 2-0. Gerrard pulled one back with a diving header that powered high into the net, seconds after Peter Crouch came on far too late. If Rafa thinks Voronin and Kuyt are more likely to worry Besiktas than Crouch, he's lost the plot totally. He overthinks it and can't see the wood for the trees.

Kaka was electrifying in Milan's 4-2 defat of Shakhtar Donetsk but it was Seedorf who will make headlines after two volleyed goals of the highest quality.

In Madrid, Olympiacos were 2-1 up against Real with ten men.Yes, the Greeks had ten men but they were winning !

Robinho is a guy who runs as if plugged into an energy-source unknown to mere mortals. I'd love to see his ProZone stats. I bet he runs 15 kilometres every game.

He netted a header for 2-2 and was then brought down for a penalty but Ruud van Nistelrooy did an Uli Hoeness with it - blazed it high over the bar. Undeterred, the electric Robinho made it 3-2. Casillas made a wonder-save to prevent 3-3, and Robinho then set up Balboa to make it 4-2.

Valencia need a centrehalf. They lost 2-0 at Rosenborg.

Chelsea had a lot of luck against Stuttgart and won 2-0 with goals by Malouda and Drogba. Malouda's shot went through the legs of young keeper Manuel Neuer after 4 minutes.

So that was Matchday 3.

And now, the Premiership.

Rafa is in denial. He has three days to put his team back together. A draw would be a good result for him on Sunday but I just can't see him getting a draw with Arsenal. Liverpool are wretched these days. Rafa has obviously fallen out with Crouch, who has lost interest. As I say, it's a shambles.

We better see some reaction from the players and manager on Sunday.

hopefully alonso and torres will be fit, gerrard on the right, yossi on the left, kuyt (or even crouch :o ) and torres upfront and i just pray that finnan, hyypia and carra get back to form quickly, at the moment riise is the best defender in the back four :o

it's as obvious as the beard on rafa's face. but he's a stubborn, pig-headed f*****.

We played Kuyt & Voronin because it's all we had. Crouch has given up, Torres couldn; tbe risked with Arsenal in mind. It's s***, but there you are.

Stick Agger, Alonso & Torres in the side for three games and we're a different side. f*** the CL. Sunday is the game.

it's not 'all we had' at all. we would've played crouch up top as a target man with voronin, benayoun and babel buzzing around off him. we could've played babel up front. we could've shown some sort of imagination. we could and should have put crouch on as a target after 55 minutes when it was blatantly obvious that besiktas were just going to sit back and defend in their own area.

The Crouch we had last year, certainly. But the current model isn't up to it, he looks resigned to leaving, and hasn't doena thing all season, admittedly he's not had many chances, but he's certainyl not taken the one he's been given.

And Babel would have been the same, dropping off, linking, not an out and out striker.

crouch won his first header last night and we scored.

Babel really should be trusted to play up top.

That's where he's going to be best.

And he can't be any worse than the Kuyt-Voronin partnership, which anybody with eyes can see will not prove successful.

I am not a fan of putting on a sub with five, ten minutes to go. More often than not, the player coming on hardly touches the ball before the end of the match (like Crouch last night). Apart from which the player has to become attuned to the pace of the game. The only reason for subbing then is to waste time.

Arsenal are going to bum rape us.

I'm predicting a win for the reds to be honest. Maybe this is the season when our Premiership and CL form swap places with each other.

Need a win so I can hold my head up high again and give people round here the finger. I live and work in Manchester. Nuff said!

I saw the game against Besiktas on TV and thought that as far as you scousers are concerned the whole is considerably less than the individual sum of the parts...in other words I blame the manager/tactics for allowing a poor team to ultimately beat you despite you lot having the better players.

As a Gooner (lucky enough to be with the away fans up at Anfield on Sunday!) I am obviously confident having seen the 7-0 win at the Emirates on Tuesday.

It will be a different game and I can't see Alonso/Torres not playing which will improve both your passing (which was poor last night) and your finishing.

However,Hyppia is slow and past it and despite carragher's strengths he is also slow........not what is wanted against us at the moment where the movement and speed is quick.
