Guest Ant Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 But Benitez came up trums in the end, That decision was un-believeable Gerrard for Lucas?, Well f***ing done Rafa, I noticed how we looked more 'Loose' less constricted, our play was on the floor, more movement, Fair Play Rafa. We rely to much on Gerrard to create something out of nothing, he may of looked gutted when he came off, but I tell you what he will buy Rafa a swirly or two tonight. We really should of killed them off after The Penalty, Voro, Momo and Riise missing guilt edge chances, I really did think we had messed it up. About the first Penalty, Gerrard was looking for it, he wasn't running towards goal, he was going to the pen spot, I have seen them given and not given and to be totally honest I didn't think it was. The 2nd one I really didn't see, but hey ho Who cares?, It makes up for the decision v Chelsea so I'm happy. We played a weakened team, but we still managed to grind out a 'champion' style result, gutted when I heared, neither Agger or Alonso was playing and was dreading Hyppia Playing, but apart from the moment of madness it was a good performance by him, Riise wasn't as bad as people made out but Sissoko was shocking. Derbies are all about results We got one with Only 2 Bookings I think, All in all I good days work and 3 Points against local rivals. The City's all ours! Also: Lescott and Osman are brilliant, and whoever thinks they are not are biased, had Sissoko looking like a woman half the game.

No it doesn't - the Chelsea one was NEVER a penalty - unless you're blind. This was a penalty even if you're blind - unbeliveably blatant handball.
muleskinner Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 It was stonewall penalty for Gerrard. The ref had a good view of it too.
Nebraska Red Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 check out the replays, the first was a deffo pen, even if the biased commentator said it was undeserved.
Guest Ant Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 2nd one deffo Penalty Still not sure about the 1st One
Coyler Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 About the first Penalty, Gerrard was looking for it, he wasn't running towards goal, he was going to the pen spot, I have seen them given and not given and to be totally honest I didn't think it was....The 2nd one I really didn't see, but hey ho Who cares?, It makes up for the decision v Chelsea so I'm happy....The City's all ours!1. Nah, you'll see it again. He was looking for it no doubt, but it was handed to him on a plate having said that. 2. Wait till you see it, it'll make you smile. 3. Live it up!
Eiler99 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Both penalties were stone wall. Too bad Neville the c*** cost Lucas the spotlight he deserved, but who cares, we won it!
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 both pens are textbook. Easiest decisions the ref had all day
Guest Finnan3 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Both were pens but I still think Sissoko should have been brought off for Lucas, not Gerrard. Nothing will change my opinion on that.

Nothing will change my opinion on that.Even the FACT that in the alternate reality where Gerrard stays on he breaks his leg in twixty places and never plays again? Bizarre.
Andy-oh-six Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 (edited) I didn't really disagree with Rafa taking off Gerrard but I thought Momo should have gone at the same time. I couldn't believe he waited until the 88th minute to bring on Pennant for Momo. The game was crying out for width to get in behind the increasingly under pressure Everton defence. What about those wools, eh? Easy to criticise when it doesn't quite come off. Nice of you to admit when you're wrong.

Sissoko and Masc both needed against 10 men, come on.
Gomez Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 1. Nah, you'll see it again. He was looking for it no doubt, but it was handed to him on a plate having said that. Exactly, just because you are looking for a penalty and inviting the foul does not make it any less of a penalty when the defender obliges and fouls you. He was fouled, he was last man. Penalty and red. This was a text book example. You know how blatant a penalty it is when andy gray has to resort to "it was a foul but the ref can't have seen it so it's not a penalty" argument.

I still think that the bigger factor in todays disappointing performance was the fact that our players are all out of form at the same time! Xabi, Agger and Torres will make a massive difference to the team. disappointing performance but great result! I would take another 28 lucky 2-1 wins!!
Gunga Din Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 true.it was still right to take Gerrard off, though. ahead of Sissoko? no, not for me it wasnt. it turned out well but it wasnt the right decision. sissoko should have been off a lot earlier, as the midfield was getting clogged up, we were playing 2 holding central midfielders against a team with 10 men who had no real presence on the middle. a wide man would have been a better option, Babel or Pennant should have come on earlier. i dont want to moan, because we won a difficult derby game, but the fact is, we got out of jail today.
smicer07 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 It was the right decision, because ultimately Lucas won us the penalty, and the game.

Hassony Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I think Rafa is screwed if he can make changes that lead to us winning a game and still gets criticised for it. looks like it doesn't, if we win the title this season it will be despite him rather than because of him if he did this last season that he would have been hailed as a genius
Maldini Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Rafa's so good he can win even when getting the tactics wrong
Mike S Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I think Rafa is screwed if he can make changes that lead to us winning a game and still gets criticised for it.yeah. it's got to the point (for some people) where we draw and no matter the circumstance it's rafa's fault. And then we win but people don't agree with or understand rafa's decisions so we only won in spite of rafa.

Falconhoof Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Rafa is getting stick because the performances have been poor for a while now. Some of its over the top.
