floyd the barber Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 so would you say Rafa got it right?? anyway....lucas looked very impressive when he came on, he got stuck in, was tidy with his passing and of course had the shot which was handled on the line by neville... Get the feeling hes going to be a very important player for us in the next few years....
Earl Hafler Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I think bringing Lucas on was a good decision but i think we've won despite Rafa making some very odd decisions, like he has done for much of the season. Leaving Momo on for 90 odd minutes when he was having a shocker was bizarre, especially against 10 men. In attack we still look a little static. Wasn't until late in the game we started to open them up. Poor performance, Great result.
IgPig Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I think bringing him on was a good move, but I would have taken Momo off. His confidence is shot. Gutted for Lucas that he didn't get the goal
_00_deathscar Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I think bringing Lucas on was a good decision but i think we've won despite Rafa making some very odd decisions By that logic, we haven't won the 4 games (in the Prem) this season DESPITE Rafa's decision then...?
Mike S Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 you can't have it both ways, if you're going to attack rafa when we draw, blaming everything on his decisions, then he deserves praise when his decisions help to win the game.
_00_deathscar Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Whilst I don't entirely agree with hte decision - it was after all Lucas who got the shot away - would he have been up there if Gerrard was still on the pitch (presuming Sissoko was taken off?)
redjersey Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Lucas was excellent when he came on. Just a shame the younger Chuckle Brother denied him his goal. I think Momo has become our 5th choice CM. Maybe we need to find room for Lucas in the best midfield in the world song at momo's expense.
alias75 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 If he can handle that game English football shouldnt be a problem for him. sorry Sissoko but in Mascherano we have someone that can do what he does but much better plus he doesnt give the ball away as much and doesnt look like a red card waiting to happen.
Conor Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I thought he did the job that I had hoped Gerrard was going to do. Just get on the ball in the top half of the pitch and keep the ball ticking over. Just to crush Everton down. And inevitably he did this and our goal came from persistent passing and pressure. No arguments here and realistically Stevie should have no complaints as well. This kid is a really really good footballer with a brain beyond his years.
Rich Gobey Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Sissoko looks no better than Diao at the moment, we need Xabi back asap - we look a bit slow and stupid in the middle. Lucas looks a bit handy but needs full games to get into the flow. I'd give him his chance at Momo's expense.
Guest RedLegend Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Lucas should be considered ahead of Momo now anyway.
alias75 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 we have 5 central midfielders 4 of them probably want regular first team football, Lucas is probably more happy to get the odd game here and there to get used to the English game, from what ive seen so far he looks pretty handy, very neat and tidy on the ball which you'd expect from a Brazilian and a very smart football brain on him like Alonso. 2 positions and 5 players doesnt fit, and i hope we sign Mascherano permanently which means Sissoko is the odd one out and realistically hes the least accomplished of the 4. I think the times you need Sissoko's energy and nuisance factor do not outweigh the times we need midfielders that can create and keep the ball and for that reason hes the odd man out.
Sion Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Lucas should be considered ahead of Momo now anyway. 1000% Sissoko was awful again today. Just don't see what he offers, especially when we're chasing the game and playing versus 10 men.
Tommy Cockles Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Lucas did very well and deserved the goal, not least to save my heart from waiting for that pen to hit the net.
Cooldude Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Strange decision at the time but now you have to say Rafa has got it right, even though Momo shouldn't have stayed on the pitch for as long as he had I like the look of this lad, hope he plays a bigger part. Looks very very mature for his age
McBain Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Sissoko makes me want to go on a gun rampage Lucas looks the business though
IgPig Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 (edited) I love Momo, but he's got a monkey on his back at the moment. Hopefully, he gain regain his confidence, but if not it might be that he has to go elsewhere for a fresh start Edited October 20, 2007 by Post Kuytal Glow
Cooldude Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 There was one pass by Momo where no blue s***es were even anywhere near 5 metres of him and he had clear passing options who also don't have much blues***es anywhere near them, and he proceeded to hit the pass 10 metres wide of the target out of play That sums him up this season. Cannot play again until he learns how to pass a football
philippe Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I think bringing him on was a good move, but I would have taken Momo off. His confidence is shot. Gutted for Lucas that he didn't get the goalThis is probably EXACTLY why Rafa let him stay on the pitch
IgPig Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 (edited) This is probably EXACTLY why Rafa let him stay on the pitch Maybe, but there was no indication today of any improvement. I can understand it in a home game against a bunch of no marks, but away to them, its not a reason for leaving on a player whose contribution is very limited Edited October 20, 2007 by Post Kuytal Glow
Guest My Giddy Aunt Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 On the bright side. Momo dis play BETTER today.
McBain Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 This is probably EXACTLY why Rafa let him stay on the pitch If he made a decision like that jeopardising the match for an individual it would be ridiculous. But i dont think he did. I just think he has a blind spot over the lad
Rex Ham Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Did he f**k. He's a liability at the moment. A spell in the ressies is what's required.
IgPig Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 (edited) On the bright side. Momo dis play BETTER today. That depends entirely on your definition of "better" If it means better than a asthmatic 80 year old waiting for a triple bypass operation, then yes, he did play better. Rimbeux Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Lucas fine, good contribution, but the wrong man went off imo
