Ronnie Whelan Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Phil Neal was on it last night and didnt pick Gerrard in the middle. Went for Crazy horse and Souness. I wasnt particularly surprised but if anyone off the current crop is going to get into a LFC dream team then surely its Stevie. Would he be in yours?
Gunga Din Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 yes, and rather Controversially , so would Reina
honourablegeorge Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Think Stevie has a way to go to reach the heights of Souness et al. Two years ago it loooked like he'd easily surpass them.

Gunga Din Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Controversial with a capital C yes, its that contraversial!
The_Adder Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Controversial with a capital C If he doesnt bugger off to Athletico and we actually win the league in the coming seasons then it's quite possibly. He's brilliant. I've have Stevie over the Crazy Horse, alongside Souness or maybe on the right
Ronnie Whelan Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 There is definitely a case for Pepe. Statistically our best from clean sheets etc.
bazz Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Any mention of Riise at left back Surely worth a shout?
Gunga Din Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 There is definitely a case for Pepe. Statistically our best from clean sheets etc. i just think he is a better keeper than Clem, the best i have seen in a red shirt. he has been here 2 seasons now, and really, how many poor games has he had? one, maybe 2. he is a class act. how many goals can you say he conceded that were his fault? very very few
Gunga Din Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Any mention of Riise at left back Surely worth a shout? aye, left back at home while the other players turn up and play
Ronnie Whelan Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 There is the obvious advantage of being able to keep clean sheets, but IMO the most impressive part of his game is his ability to play sweeper and start attacks, which he is constantly looking to do.
johngibo YPC Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 If he doesnt bugger off to Athletico and we actually win the league in the coming seasons then it's quite possibly. He's brilliant. Can't see Gerrard going there
bazz Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Im a big fan of Pepe and he is definitely up there. But its too soon to be comparing a player with (although fantastic) 2 seasons behind him against 2 players with nearly decades of service (Grobb and Clem) If he stays in the form that he is in for the next 2-3 seasons, then he will automatically stake a claim As for Gerrard, I honestly think he has started to lose his effectiveness based on his OVERALL performance over a season. He has too many inconsistent games for me and I was hoping he would develop into a player like Souness that could dictate play. Unfortunately he seldoms does it.

Grobb's acceptance of a brown envelope or 2 takes him out of the running for me. Do I need to say alleged? Pepe is one of my favourite players but he needs a couple more seasons at the same level to replace Clem in my dream team.
Ronnie Whelan Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 He only picked the players from his time at the club. He did, but isnt your overall LFC dream team?

Guy_Incognito Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 I think Gerrard suffers from being contemporary, if you get me. I'm sure Souness had some s***e games that he was less than effective in, and misplaced some passes, but time's dulled the memories and now he's seen as perfection. We'll look back at Gerrard differently in 20 years. Especially the 2005 and 2006 finals where he'll in all likelihood be adjudged (rightly or wrongly) to have won just about on his own.
Ronnie Whelan Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Especially the 2005 and 2006 finals where he'll in all likelihood be adjudged (rightly or wrongly) to have won just about on his own. Do you mean the Gerrard Final?
charlie clown Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Think Stevie has a way to go to reach the heights of Souness et al. Two years ago it loooked like he'd easily surpass them. agree entirely - a couple of years back he looked to have it all there, reached a level where he was shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Souey but since then, for me, he's dropped back a bit, he's still extraordinarily good but I don't think he's quite so invincible or consistent as he was 18 months or so back and I think has stopped improving his game as well.

cymrococh Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Gerrard would have sulked off to Chelsea because Souness was captain.
