I laughed at the "on matchdays, every hotel room in the city is taken".

It's great isn't it?

Meanwhile I laugh at our CL qualifier and Carling Cup attendances pissing all over your average League gate.

Looking forward to the one and only sell out a week today?

If I want to stay in Liverpool I always time it with your lot being at home as I know I can have my pick of the hotels

So if this planing permission thing goes through, we will then start working on another plan to get it up to towards 78k? I will be pretty unhappy if we open with 60k.

My bet is that it will open with 60,000. The extra capacity won't be authorized until they have the infrastructure in place to handle the extra fans.

Most of the extra capacity won't be at the Anny Rd end either. It will be at the side stand which has a really low capacity in comparison to the stand opposite (25,000 vs 12,000 I think).

Selfish and short-sighted as this probably is to say, I reckon that if they open without enough capacity to clear out the existing season ticket waiting list it will be a big mistake. It'll be bad enough waiting until 2010 to get one, but at least if you knew it was coming it would help with the frustration. If rumours on the size of the list are even close to true, I don't think 60,000 will do it.

well on the other side, once the 'project eviction' is complete and we finally get rid of everton we should be able in increase our attendance accordingly.

Oh look, we have a brand new car park. what are those castle like towers in blue? Oh nothing....

There's no guarantee that a stadium of any capacity is going to fill season ticket demand though. Arsenal's waiting list has actually increased as a result of the emirates opening, because for everyone who'd been on the waiting list for years, there were another 2 or 3 who hadn't previously put themselves down as the prospect of ever getting one seemed so remote. Think we'd be fairly likely to see a similar effect.

We'd need a 150,000 seater stadium to clear the waiting list.

The Gillett and Hicks stadia, each holding 75,000 - we play the first half in one, the second in other - sorted!

the new stadium has taken a big step forward. It has been recommended that planning permission be given. I think it has now been referred to the Secretary of State.

Excellent use of the subjunctive mood there

Isn't the Secretary of State a Manc?

She's an MP in the Salford area, so probably supports Man U.

I'm not sure her turning down a planning decision on those grounds would get very far in judicial review.

Liverpool city council, or planning committe atleast, have made their decision. The final approval is now down to the Department for communities and local government, subject to a legal agreement (s106???)
