when was the last time we bought a youngster who actually went on and made the grade with us..

It seems we`ve been buying potential and the next best thing for years and i cant think of one who has actually made the grade with us....

Agger and sissoko dont really count as they were already full internationals and regulars at club level....im talking about those snapped up with the words "most sought after youngster in the world" attached to their name.....

Im really struglling to think of just one........

it has been a concern, but I will hold judgement on Rafa's buys.

You have to think what would have happened to Ronaldo or Cesc if they had joined us?

What would have happened to Le Tallec or Pongo at the scum or a***?

Rafa's only been here 5 years. none of the youngsters he's brought in are going to be read yet. You are talking about Houllier buys which were flops.

I think Insua is the one most likely

At a stretch, Scott Carson?

yeah thats a bit of a stretch....was already playing first team football for his former club, joins us and hardly gets a look in....cant see him staying around to be honest, hes too good to be sitting in our reserves and deserves a shot at being england number 1, hes not gonna get that with us having Reina.

He was on the Leeds bench...

Contrast that to Arsene Wenger who has pretty much bought only youngsters in the past few years who now make up his first team. He obviously has the confidence in his purchases where Rafa seems to buy them and then get shut in a short time frame.

It was only really Le Tallec and Sinama who had that kind of billing though.

There is one kid who I think will make it, 16 year old from Dovecot, name is Adam Wilson got called up from the Academy to join the Youth team, really worth looking out for, possibly another SG, JM in the making. Theres a bit about him & video on the offal site under youth bit.

He hit the bar with a great shot for the u18s at the weekend.

As for the original post, we've only really started investing heavily in young players since Rafa took over, Hobbs, Roque, Antwi and Anderson were the first lot to come (Barragan has already left) all 4 of them are only 18/19. It's rare for players to break through that young, besides I don't think we've had the infrastructure in place to properly recruit young players until the last 18 months, the caliber of player we've brought in since then has been higher.

It'll probably be another 2 to 3 years before we see the benefit of Rafa's investment in youth.

he'll be well gone by then. hounded out by the short termists for not winning the title by october playing "entertaining football"

pity, as he's put a long term structure in place

you would expect at the end of this season that either some will be shipped out, or will be part of the first team squad. I'm thinking about hobbs, antwi, Roque and Anderson, the first batch and Hammill and Guthrie.

Its not only about how many make it at Liverpool, but whether they become good footballers to play professionally at a high level. You can talk about Arsene and not every player making it through, but those that don't tend to bring in pretty good money.
