We are so friggin boring to watch and seriously lack flair....its not like we havent bought these types of players in, we just seem to use them in the wrong areas and make them play to a system...and make them do something they are not ideally suited for, houllier and now rafa seem to have this same mentallity..

Now yes we have been involved in some fantastic games, but its almost like one of those long boring movies...but the ending and twist are unbelievable.....it kinda started in the "owen final" against the a***....ever since then we win cups the hard way, through sheer passion, grit and with a huge helping hand from our fans.

But to do this every week in the premiership, we just cant do it and havent looked seriously like doing it in years....(last time was the season after the treble where we finished 2nd)...

I gotta be honest and say we are boring to watch, last time we truly were exciting week in-week out was under Roy Evans...problem was we had a shocking defence, but at least we had some flair, some excitement..

Now will the way we play at the moment bring home the premiership, i dont believe so...would i be happy watching us play this way and win the title...of course

Still i am jealous of the way arsenal, manchester utd, real madrid, barcelona play.....i love watching football and all those sides are fantastic and hugely entertaining to watch....and i feel sick to my stomach saying this especially including the mancs...but i know many feel the same way.

We have had so many talented players in the past 10 years......and so many have been failiures, those who came with massive potential have flopped.....what if Ronaldo had come to us 4 years ago? would we have stuck him in the reserves for a season?...made him play more for the team?...make him lose that cockyness?.......

Im worried about Babel, not just for us..but for his career too.....he has that certain cockyness and showed it in abundance for ajax and holland...just hope he doesnt get loe in our system and be asked to do jobs that just are not his game..

We have paid huge money for babel, lucas not forgetting the excellent insua...these guys shouldnt be waiting around in the reserves...they shouldnt be going out on loan (where once you got out on loan, its highly unlikely you`ll ever make the grade with us)....

confidence is built from faith shown by the manager........its time for babel to get a run, hes gonna had the odd bad game...but you can just drop a player and destroy his confidence (especially if the side is winning)....which is what we were until injuries and rotation started to show its ugly head,,,

I love the thrilling ending.....i just want to see the thrills week in - week out for 90 minutes.......and maybe it wont be good enough to win the title.....but hell, we`ve been playing the european, tactical way for over 10 years and it hasnt worked...

Its time for something different.......id be more than happy to go bk to the workhorse tactics so we can challenge for the champs league again in a few years...lets just please win the premiership.

I agree with a lot of this. I don't know if it's a tactical thing (like our players are instructed not to let too many get ahead of the ball because it will mess up our defensive duties), or whether it's just a mental thing - our players are so tense that most of the time they can't produce the pass and move football that they are clearly talented enough to play.

So many times when we're attacking we end up with 2 or 3 of our players against 5 or 6 defenders. When I watch Man U or Arsenal play, this doesn't seem to be the case nearly as often. Arsenal don't have any real width players, and haven't done for years, yet they repeatedly open up other teams and create chance after chance. Just frustrates me that we seem unable to do the same.

Rafa is an absolute tactical genius - getting us to 2 CL finals in 3 years is an astounding feat. But it's when we're home to Birmingham, or away at Portsmouth that we should be winning due to superior players rather than (or as well as) superior tactics.

I think the issue is though, Rafa, boringho and Houllier are all 'effective football' managers whereas managers like fungus, wenger, ramos etc are 'flair' managers. all good managers, but different styles, and that is going to be apparant through the play. remember when Houllier tried to play more expansive football? It all went to pot.

Valencia never played 'flair' either, but they were still good to watch though.

I think the only way we can win the league this year is if we are dumped out of the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup, and soon.

In that way, we will play all the best available players with our eyes only on the next BPL game.

That way consistency and fitness stays up.

We are capable of producing some sublime football though...

oh definetly, arsenal(the league of course;) ) and bolton last season at anfield...great examples of us playing some sensational football.....we know that the players have it them and thats what makes it so irratating that it cannot be done more consistently....and yeah i do put it down to the manager, dont get me wrong... i love rafa and want him to stay, just feel hes developing a houllier-like stubborness that he needs to let go of...

Why the f*ck do people worry about how exciting/entertaining our football is?

We usually play 'better' football than most clubs anyway. And most of our most successful teams weren't noted for being the most entertaining.

Utter rubbish. What's clearly developing is the same fan-oriented stupidity that convinces itself it knows what to do to make Liverpool win the League, re-enforces this in inane discussion with other fans, and then when an experienced top level football manager fails to follow this advice convinces itself it's because the manager is stubborn.

Whats clearly rubbish is your response mate. These are honest observations a lot of us have. Its not a case of "a football mgr" not following advice. More a case of no flair in the style of footie we play. Do you think we are exciting to watch except the odd game....?

If all the poster had said is that we aren't exciting to watch, then it would be a fair comment and completely subjective

It is when he refers to Rafa's "stubborness" that it devolves into, well, stupidity ...

John is right in pointing out that the initial post in this thread is a bit all over the place. The suggestion seems to be that to win the league we need to play in the style of Barca or Arsenal. Well I don't know if you noticed but neither of them are the champions of their countries. The mancs played an attacking brand of football last season and won the league, fair play to them. However Chelsea have been the best side in the country over the past 3 years and they are a very pragmatic side and this season the mancs have been a pragmatic side in the main.

If you want to win the league it is all about results. It's not about some intangible entertainment value. What does "flair" mean anyway? Do you think that Rafa thinks we need more flair, or do you think he wants us to win more football matches?

Up until the international break there was evidence that we were more attack minded and less bound by a system anyway. Momentum has been disrupted by a few things IMO. Injuries to Carragher, Agger, Gerrard and Alonso all simultaneously have really slowed momentum. I'm convinced that Gerrard and Carragher are playing when not right physically and the people who have come in to replace Agger and Alonso are struggling to do the job because of it.

That response - the one your are replying to - was about the idiotic idea of Benitez developing a Houllier-like stubbornness.

On the question of how much flair we have and how exciting to watch, not I don't think we are particularly - although you can say that about the majority of teams in the League. What the f*ck does it matter is my point.

We had the second best home record in the League last season, all despite the considerable handicap of having this impossibly stubborn manager. Our problem was in away games not at home.
