Skillz Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Sorry if this is seen as a stupid question but What is the point of the semicircle arch on each of the 18 yard boxes? Thanks in advance
Guest Sabre Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 I always thought it was to prevent encroachment on penalties. On a similar note, I'm not sure if you can collect the ball from a goalkick from within the semicircle?

If anyone can confirm this is right and the one and only reason it would be appreciated.
John am Rhein Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 I'm pretty sure it IS for preventing encroachment on penalties. And I'm pretty sure you CAN collect the ball from a goal kick within the 'D'
Guy_Incognito Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 It's to make sure that everyone's 10 yards from the penalty spot when it's taken. It's only a semicircle cos you're not allowed in the penalty box when a penalty's getting taken anyway
Mike Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 can substituted players be brought back on in any circumstances, yes?no? just asking...
_00_deathscar Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Only if his first name beings with M, and his last name begins with B.
allez les rouges Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 aparently if when you are attacking your opponents, in their box, and you commit a very serious foul, a penalty can be awarded against you!! could you imagine that if a cup final!
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 It is, as the penalty area has straight lines part of it is within 10 yards of the spot. The arc indicates 10 yards from the ball. It is ok from a goal-kick as it's not a part of the penalty area
Herbie von Smalls Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Only if his first name beings with M, and his last name begins with B.siGn MIcHaEL bARrYmoRE!
Guest Kaizer Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 can substituted players be brought back on in any circumstances, yes?no? just asking... Actually in some leagues they can.
John am Rhein Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Actually in some leagues they can. What? The NFL and NBA?
Bo Benn Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 aparently if when you are attacking your opponents, in their box, and you commit a very serious foul, a penalty can be awarded against you!! could you imagine that if a cup final! If the offense is not in your penalty area a penalty can never be awarded against you. You can kick someone's legs of, gang rape him, feed him old fruit outside the box - all hell will be raised but never a penalty kick.
Bo Benn Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 What? The NFL and NBA? In Swedish 6th division and I assume downwards you may make as many substitutions as you like. Number of subs is always maximum 5 players but they and the other 11 can be switched freely.

Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Actually in some leagues they can.what? Not according to the rules of the game you can't. A substituted player will play no further part...
RP Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 what? Not according to the rules of the game you can't. A substituted player will play no further part... Laws, not rules

Bo Benn Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 You are Rob Styles and I claim my 5 match suspension. Mentioning that name is a bookable offense for bringing the game into disrepute
Guest Kaizer Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 what? Not according to the rules of the game you can't. A substituted player will play no further part... In the lower divisions in Norway you can, not sure how low you have to go though, I`ve only played down to division 3, but I think its from 6th division or something like that, looks like its the same in Sweden according to Obey Hysen. The different federations are allowed to have their own domestic rules if they apply for it, I remember in the late 80`s before I got my debut in the senior team, we tried out having penalty shoot outs after draws in Norway, where the winner of the penalty shoot out got two points instead of just one. This was a time where the teams in Norway struggled with attendance, and the penalty shoot outs was brought in to try to make things more interesting if it was boring 0-0 draws to keep the audience in the stadium. It only lasted for one season though because it was not the best idea, so I never got to play under the rule since it was only the senior teams that tried it out, thats why I dont remember the exact year.
Gilps Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 The lower leagues in Norway would be a natural home for the boy Baros too.
_00_deathscar Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 How did that come about anyway, the whole "Bring Baros back on" thing?
Guest Sabre Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 How did that come about anyway, the whole "Bring Baros back on" thing? I think it was a match thread and we were getting pissed off as we were losing. Mike just came out and said, "Why the f*** didn't we just bring Baros back on?!"
