Computer help - accessing old pc user profiles

Basically my dad's PC has gone t*** up including a load of info, contacts and stuff to do with our Steve. I'm going to see if I can take the hard drive of his PC out and put it in the casing of a removable drive and see if I can recover stuff that way via another pc so that really, at the moment isn't the biggest part of the problem.

This next bit is...

So we can keep in touch with stuff I've hooked up Ste's old pc to my dad's set up and have finally managed to get on the interweb with it.

The problem is Ste's got loads of old shyte taking up space under his user profile and I need to copy some of his stuff over to CD, delete old games etc, so I can free up space for my dad to load, obviously more important, stuff on.

To do this I need to basically hack into Ste's profile - any idea on how to do this? It's not a privacy issue as the police have previously done so and if there was owt sensitive then we've already been told about it anyway.

I've considered using my dad's old hard drive as a second drive but until I can test if it's still working I can't do this for definite.

Incidentally, the issue with my dad's PC got locked in a loop where it would start up, you'd see the windows loading message and that blue bar ticker thing then it would re-start itself. I've had this on my pc before now and it's due to overheating so I checked the set-up and saw that the PC fans weren't enabled so I enabled them - after that it just gave me a 5 minute shutdown warning - spoke to our IT guys at work and it seems like the whole thing has just overheated so I'm gonna take the casing off and put a fan on it and try to boot it up and see if that helps.

Any advice out there for me? More importantly on the profile hack but anything on the problem with my dad's pc would also be useful - particularly with regards tio file recovery.

Danke.
