A serious doubt for Ireland's game on Saturday. Is back in Liverpool receiving treatment, but Staunton hasn't ruled him out yet.

OK, cheers. TFFT.

My mate just texted me the same thing. I had images of cruciate ruptures and months and months out then.

Simple anwser though Stan. If he is a doubt, he doesn't f**kin play. Same goes for you SCS, our season and their careers and not worth risking for your crummy ineptly done jobs.

Medial ligament strain according to the paper. Not sure how long that would rule him out for but judging by the tone of the article and the fact it only has him as a 'major doubt for the game' it should be a few games at most.

I reckon he'll be back for our next league game

Hopes for Finnan's fitness fade

Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:43

Slovakia v Republic of Ireland is live on RTÉ Two and RTÉ.ie (Republic of Ireland only) on Saturday, 8 September, from 7pm. There will be live commentary on RTÉ Radio 1's International Soccer Special, also from 7pm. Live scoring will be available here on www.rte.ie/sport and on RTÉ Aertel

Steve Finnan has all but been ruled out of Ireland's Euro 2008 Group D qualifier against Slovakia on Saturday with a knee injury.

The Liverpool right-back picked up the injury during last Saturday's 6-0 Premiership win over Derby County.

John O'Shea picked up a knock this morning and sat out today's session in Malahide as a precaution.

Paul McShane is still recovering from a shoulder injury, but he is expected to be available for selection.

And goalkeeper Shay Given's return to fitness is a major boost for manager Steve Staunton.
