But I do think that we should have won it by more,

Torres is a bit of a tasty treat up front and Voronin has wonderful touch but was a bit excruciating at times....

Thought that Alonso proved a lot of doubters wrong, was a calm assured from him, if Gerrard was anywhere else, he would be the best complete central midfielder at Liverpool.

MOM was Pennant for me though...

Agree with MOM.

i actually thought the first 20 mins where the worst i have seen us play in a long long time!!!

No pace no creativity at all we looked all over the place.

But to be fair we plugged away at them and got and more into our normal game.

I thought last season wed have lost or drawn this one, so we have made progress and im all for that!

aye we should have won by more, but that game was Sheff Utd of last season.

I really like Voronin, he is a player. As is Alvaro, and goes without saying that Torres lad is alright too ;)

But Voro is already some surprise.

What doubters? Alonso has had a poor start to the season, that is a fact, it does not mean people think he is sh*te or doubt what he is capable of.

Pennant MOM??

seriously?

I thought Momo, arberbarbola and xabi would have been better candidates for MOM

Thought Pennant apart form one lazy ball was outstanding but I'd give MOTM to Arbeloa. He just doesn't get ruffled..

No, it is an opinion, and one that many people would not agree with.

Thought Pennant had a good game. Voronin, Sissoko and Alvaro as well, all had good games. I hope Arbeloa is making that left back spot his own.

He has been our defensive midfielder in three tough opening games and the only goals we have conceded are pens. NOT a poor start imo.

Thought arbeloa was great, he makes me laugh he does. Anyone notice that in every game so far hes done this chip and dive thing to get a foul and usually gets the guy booked. Very good going forward and looks a mainstay in the side.

Need to kill games off a bit earlier, just for the sake of my health, but we do look a lot more impressive going forwards than last, opening sides up and getting clear efforts on goal. Torres and Voronin look superb, both work incredibly hard and are classy to boot. I think that Babel is a better striker than winger but again encouraged by him.

Great start to the season, lets keep it going....

You are correct we wouldnt have won this last season, Sunderland only got promoted this season. Still worried that we miss too many chances.

Yes we have had a good start. But I'm a little worried about the injuries to Carra and Sami.I think Cara will be out of the Tolouse game.Although Arbeloa was able to deputize I think we should go out and buy another central defender.

- since Didi left and took his crumple with him, we've missed something like that, not that I want to see dives getting opposition booked though.

We started very well for the first 5 minutes, but then Sunderland started kicking us all over the place. In previous years I don't think we would have gone on to win such a game - particularly having lost a centre-back, and then another later in the game, but we stuck at it, and actually created quite a few decent chances.

Combination of good keeping and poor finishing meant it was more nervy than it needed to be. Torres alone could have scored 3, but I thought our second goal was a fantastic counter attacking goal.

I sort of agree but you can't say we wouldn't have won that last year when they have such a poor record against us and ( here comes the nail ) we won by the exact same score last time we played there.

Why wouldn't we have won this game last season? According to someone on Sky, Sunderland have beaten Liverpool at home just ONCE in the last 50 years!

We've got two good away wins in our first three games. Last season either/both could have been a draw. Rafa is definitely committing more going forward away from home and this is pleasing to see. The slight downside is the amount of chances we are not putting away, but I feel that will come. We have strikers still finding their feet in the English game, but you can see the quality is there.

I'm concerned that Chelsea just seem relentless in grinding out wins. We really need to match that this season. If we keep up the pressure we may pull clear during the African Nations Cup, when their two best players (sorry Lampard and Terry!) will be away.

Give some credit to their keeper though. He had a great game.

Voronin looks like he could be the link man we've been looking for. From the start to the end he was chasing & hassling. Could have scored at the start, did score at the end & should have had a pen in injury time

But the season prior in which we amassed 81 points, we won a lot of our away games against the smaller teams, Sunderland being one of them...

I don't like the whole "last season we would have..." being used as an indicator of our progress. When we go to Chelsea/Arsenal/Man Utd and put in strong performances and come away with results, while keeping the consistency against the smaller teams, then that would be a sign of progress IMO.

clever player voronin. don't know why it's a surprise to many given that he's partnered shevchenko for ukraine for years. going to be an influential contributor this season/

Agree - he put in a good performance today. A much better player than I initially thought.

I think many saw him as a free transfer replacement for Fowler.

Robbie was basically a reserve. Voronin is a squad player who'll push Kuyt and Torres to sustain top form.
