Guest Sabre Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Did it not remind you of Michael Owen at his best? The pass from Gerrard was sublime, the first touch great, the acceleration magnifique, and the finish in the perfect spot. Here's to many more, El Nino
Swipe Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Reminded me more of Henry. That move where he deceives the defender by slowing down, before accelerating past him is devastating. When your as strong and quick as players like Torres and Henry, it's virtually unstoppable.
stressederic Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Absolutely mugged Ben Haim it was brilliant. That's something we've not had nearly enough of against our rivals, someone whose going to just go past their back four and get in on the goalkeeper. Not only was Torres good enough to do that, Gerrard knew that by playing passes like that he could isolate their defenders.
Guest Sabre Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Shame he tired in the second half. The lad is so talented. Against poorer defenders he will cause, dare I say it, carnage
Mikey Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Made up with the goal and with how he stood up to Terry's attempts at bullying him.
Swipe Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Shame he tired in the second half. The lad is so talented. Against poorer defenders he will cause, dare I say it, carnage It'll stil take time for him to get into top gear. Sure wasn't he carrying an injury in pre-season? He gave Terry a terrible time in the first half. Terry's c*** rant at Torres was purely as a result of his frustration.
Guest Sabre Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Scoring goals like that will make him incredibly popular with the fans. He's got guts too
Swipe Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I knew he was really fast, but I don't think I ever appreciated how strong he is.
Guest Sabre Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I knew he was really fast, but I don't think I ever appreciated how strong he is. He took a great touch in the inside right position and held off 2 Chelsea players and almost kept the ball when another got involved too.
Maldini Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I was nearly as happy with him getting in Terry's face as I was with the goal, it shows he won't be intimidated by anyone. He's added an extra edge to our attacking play, still early days for him though.
Swipe Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 He took a great touch in the inside right position and held off 2 Chelsea players and almost kept the ball when another got involved too. There was a point in second half when he took the ball in the air with a brilliant touch. His technique is miles ahead of anyone else we have up front. Not getting too carried away, but it's looking good.
Guest Sabre Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Saying all this, I thought Dirk was good today. He links up well with Torres and with our wide men.
Swipe Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Saying all this, I thought Dirk was good today. He links up well with Torres and with our wide men. Agree. I don't think he's gonna be prolific for us, but his work rate is exceptional. He was very aggressive today. If he can maintain that, he'll be hell to play against. The chavs were very uncomfortable against our front two today.
Cobs Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Reminded me more of Henry.was what i thought. good start - looks like we may have ourselves a striker.
Guest Sabre Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Think he needs a few games now to get his fitness up. I'm gutted today because the peno came at just the wrong moment for us too. Rafa was planning to bring on Babel for Pennant and we would have been strong on the counter. It knocked the stuffing out of us.
IgPig Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Great goal, and he seems to have the desire and work rate, as well as the talent. if we keep buying these missing links, sometime one of them will actually turn out to fit.
Andy-oh-six Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 He took his goal very well and it was akin to Henry when he drew Ben Haim in and took him on. It was also pleasing to see him getting in Terry's face and not backing down. It was a big mental and physical challenge for him and he came through it with flying colours.
Nebraska Red Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 all my wife said was " wow, he's a good looking lad!!!"
Guest Sabre Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 all my wife said was " wow, he's a good looking lad!!!" He's no Xabi
Bootle Buck Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 The turn of pace was superb but he still had some work to do and the finish was sublime.
smithdown Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Astonishing goal, a direct route that cant be defended against and seemed to have all day when he faced Cech. It terrified them. Get in!
IgPig Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 (edited) all my wife said was " wow, he's a good looking lad!!!" My wife said "he needs to sort his hair out" Shes more a Pepe woman. Edited August 19, 2007 by Post Kuytal Glow
Gomez Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 I thought he'd broke his ankle in that challenge on half time. His foot looked at a right funny angle on the replay. I couldn't believe it.
