Ben 23 Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 ...although I hope that its finnan who gets the nod It will be.
Sion Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I think we've all learnt from Rafa over the past few years he won't pick what we consider to be the best team, he'll pick the most fit or prepared team.
Stevie H Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I go first: ReinaFinnan Carra Agger RiiseBenayoun Gerrard Alonso KewellTorres Kuytthat could be on the button.
Stevie H Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I think it will be pennant and arebola on the right side, although I hope that its finnan who gets the nodof course he will. undoubted first choice.
Phil M (ET Crew) Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Rafa always seems to pull one highly surprising team selection and this time round I have a feeling it will be to leave Torres out of the starting 11. As Stevie H pointed out Rafa puts a lot of faith in fitness and match readyness and with Torress starting training a few weeks later than most I can see him only being a 2nd half sub. I do of course hope I am wrong! My guess at his starting 11 is; ReinaFinnan, Carra, Agger, RiisePennant, Gerrard, Alonso, BabelVoronin (or maybe Yossi playing link striker), Kuyt

I do of course hope I am wrong! We need to take three points from the Villa game especially with Chelsea up second, otherwise we could be playing catch-up from the word go. Bacause of that I think we could see a pretty familiar side start on Saturday, with maybe one or a maximum of two new boys.
psl Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 (edited) Its a must win game. We'll be out of the race otherwise! Edited August 9, 2007 by psl
Sion Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 We should go gung-ho at the b******s, they'll be playing for a 0-0 -------------------Reina----------------- ----------Finnan-Carra-Agger--------- ---------------Masch-Xabi---------- --Pennant -----Gerrard--------Babel ----------Torres-----Crouch------------ like that'll ever happen though.
Stevie H Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 ---------------------Reina-------------------------------Carragher-Hyypia-Agger------------Finnan--Gerrard-Mascherano-Sissoko--Riise-----------Benayoun------Babel-----------------------------------Voronin----------------------- Rafa could always do something a bit mad like the above as well, you know. we'd get docked points for that line-up and begin the season with a minus points tally.
Walrus Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 we'd get docked points for that line-up and begin the season with a minus points tally. True Take Mascherano out of it then, or alternatively bring Baros back on in the second half.
Ronnie Whelan Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Its a must win game. We'll be out of the race otherwise! Not exactly, but not enough importance is put on the early games ala last year. A championship winning side cannot be dropping points away to Villa.
Will Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Not exactly, but not enough importance is put on the early games ala last year. A championship winning side cannot be dropping points away to Villa.Yeah, cos no team that has ever won the title did so after losing at Villa...
Ronnie Whelan Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Yeah, cos no team that has ever won the title did so after losing at Villa... And thats the point I was trying to make alright Our Picking up three away points against Villa on the first day of the season would be a good result and one that is an improvement on the dull game we seen last season. Sure the league is not won on the first day of the season, but they can be won on the last day, even though its still three points up for grabs. If we are to hit 19 this year, every game needs to be approached like this. We have the squad IMO and I think we also have the hunger, so starting with 3 points away would be the ideal platform.
CarraLegend Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Oh Steve Bennett, this t*** absolutely hates Alonso. Probably be a dodgy peno aswell, hopefully its for us.

I like that one.

stressederic Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Not having Setanta and also being in Paris this weekend means I'm going to miss this one, but hopefully we'll turn them over. I don't want us to miss out on 3 points at Villa and then have to go straight into the Chelsea game.
Guest Kitehoo Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I hope we play with two wingers and two strikers. I don't want to see anymore 1 striker up front against these teams playing at home for a flippin draw. Villa last year was one of the worst games of the season. Hopefully they might have some early season adventure in them and actually come out to play.
R A Softlad Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 We should go gung-ho at the b******s, they'll be playing for a 0-0 -------------------Reina----------------- ----------Finnan-Carra-Agger--------- ---------------Masch-Xabi---------- --Pennant -----Gerrard--------Babel ----------Torres-----Crouch------------ like that'll ever happen though.
