WARNING: Possible formation thread :)

... would you chose for the following game examples and why:

1.) CL quarter final 2nd leg away game at San Siro against AC Milan, after 1-1 in the first game at Anfield

2.) CL semi final 2nd leg home game at Anfield against Chelsea, after 0-0 at Stamford Bridge

3.) Premier League game against Birmingham at St. Andrews

Would there be any difference in your choice?

is this the most pointless thread ever? formations for games we're not playing?

how about

4) Away vs Villa, first day of the season

Posted

The 3 examples were to point out different match scenarios. It might as well have been Villa away.

I personally don't think we can just use a 4-4-2 and say: "hey we play it our way and we'll win it all". I think we need to adjust depending on a variety of factors, such as opponents tactics, venue, importance etc...

cod spamfritter rock haddock

chips currysauce fishbits mushypeas

steaknkidneypie cheeseburger (controversial)

not solid enough in the middle of the park

also, I'd drop cheeseburger for chicken vindaloo to spice things up in the attacking third

Sign David Butty!

This question is impossible to answer at the present time as we've seen none of the new players playing in a competitive game and we don't know that the signings are finished

You could chose to answer it with the knowledge you've got now.... we don't know who our next signing is but we're still guessing every single day... ;)

I've seen enough to say he's better than Henry.

Where have you been since December? We have G&T now, we don't need to shop at the chippy any more - we can get an Indian takeout any time we like.

Depends on the individual...

I think of forwards as strikers who do more than just sit in the box and prod the ball home.

Not many 'strikers' left in world football today mind.

in which case

Reina

Finnan - Carra - Agger - Riise

Gerrard - Mascherano - Alonso - Kewell

Torres - Kuyt

nice and traditional. I like it. Maybe swap Masch for Pennant. If Babel or Voronin do a Cheyrou in pre-season I will be smitten by hype and drop Kuyt for one of them though.

Is it only me who wants to see our centre midfield to be Gerrard-Masch against the small teams? I think that's the best central 2 currently at the club

I just want to see a team that will consistently break down lesser teams. I am not too worried about conceding in those fixtures. Xabi and Steve are generally our best bets for getting the team to play well.

We look a better team when Xabi is in the side.

Mascherano/Gerrard, like Hamann/Gerrard previously, may give Gerrard more licence to bomb-on but our passing suffers and the team looks more disjointed.

An improvement on Gonzalez. Quicker, less likely to just hug the line and most likely to be seen as part of a three, four man attack. Could be a perfect foil for Torres
