Jezzman Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 WARNING: Possible formation thread ... would you chose for the following game examples and why: 1.) CL quarter final 2nd leg away game at San Siro against AC Milan, after 1-1 in the first game at Anfield2.) CL semi final 2nd leg home game at Anfield against Chelsea, after 0-0 at Stamford Bridge3.) Premier League game against Birmingham at St. Andrews Would there be any difference in your choice?
surf Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 is this the most pointless thread ever? formations for games we're not playing? how about 4) Away vs Villa, first day of the season
surf Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 in which case ReinaFinnan - Carra - Agger - RiiseGerrard - Mascherano - Alonso - KewellTorres - Kuyt

Jezzman Posted July 18, 2007 Author Posted July 18, 2007 The 3 examples were to point out different match scenarios. It might as well have been Villa away. I personally don't think we can just use a 4-4-2 and say: "hey we play it our way and we'll win it all". I think we need to adjust depending on a variety of factors, such as opponents tactics, venue, importance etc...

sutty Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 This question is impossible to answer at the present time as we've seen none of the new players playing in a competitive game and we don't know that the signings are finished

Jezzman Posted July 18, 2007 Author Posted July 18, 2007 So the good ol' 4-4-2 is out of the question then....

I like it. Maybe swap Masch for Pennant. If Babel or Voronin do a Cheyrou in pre-season I will be smitten by hype and drop Kuyt for one of them though.
FC Showster Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Is it only me who wants to see our centre midfield to be Gerrard-Masch against the small teams? I think that's the best central 2 currently at the club

Xabi and Steve are generally our best bets for getting the team to play well.

Mascherano/Gerrard, like Hamann/Gerrard previously, may give Gerrard more licence to bomb-on but our passing suffers and the team looks more disjointed.

Quicker, less likely to just hug the line and most likely to be seen as part of a three, four man attack. Could be a perfect foil for Torres
