David Hodgson Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I've just gotta feeling, to use an old metaphorical cliche, that it's gonna be Harry Kewell. If he has a Ryan Giggs-like comeback season, then he could be THE key factor for us. On 75% of his finest form he's better than most of Europe's most lauded wingers. I'm excited about Babbel, Torres and Benayoun, but a 'fit and firing' Harry could eclipse them all. Are you listening NHE ?
Benitez Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Never mind signing of the summer, it'd be the miracle of the millennium if he stays fit long enough to make a significant contribution. I really hope he does, he needs to! Last chance for Harry to prove his worth, and him at the top of his game is something the team could do with.

Let's put it this way, we all get ever so excited by new, unproven, signings, but the truth is we know what a fit Harry kewell can do (even below his full capability). I firmly believe that what Harry 'does next' is more important to us than how, say, the like of Ryan Babel settles in. He is will be our 'x' factor this year. I know it to be so. Trust me.h

Flanders Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Babel will hopefully be the player Kewell was 6 years ago. Harry has a fight on this season if he stays fit, I predict he'll be whinging by December.

fabfive Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 He better be fit and be producing or he'll be off to join Viduka at Newcastle.

I’d love him to actual produce the sort of form that we know he’s capable of. My issue over Harry Kewell is not his ability – it’s the consistency in his performances and availability and I still maintain my view from before the time he signed that he will never produce his form consistently for us. Maybe he can get a few games in, do well and then we can flog him for a few quid.

jfogarty Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Its obvious hes going to get injured in the final of the Asian Cup. Theres nothing surer
RP Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Encouraging to see him break away and score in the 90th minute of Australia's game yesterday/today/whenever the f*** it was. But then he's always cared more about Australia than Liverpool. You can see it is in his eyes.
eth Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 No, I still don't get it.Recovery from injury as a metaphor for signing a new player. HK will be like a new signing if he doesn't break down. Someone says this every time Kewell comes back from injury. Every time. I'd believe it this time if he hadn't gone and played for Australia over the summer.

But then he's always cared more about Australia than Liverpool. You can see it is in his eyes. To be fair, he IS from Australia... Serious though, I have always liked Kewell and I think if he stays fit he will be an important player for us. Rafa seems to rate him very highly and now we have cover so I don't see what the problem is. I predict that he will take his chance.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 BREAKING NEWS Harry did not get injured in last night's game against Thailand.
downunder Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 BREAKING NEWS Harry did not get injured in last night's game against Thailand. His hair got wet though!! B A, cant be bothered switching to 'our' forum so will ask you here but was he dropped or rested last night. I didn't see the Iraq game so don't know how good or bad he was then. Maybe he told Arnold how bad a manager he is!!
Zoob Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 (edited) Annoyed that Australia won. Silly summer tournaments (just as the European championships is silly). If Australia get to the final, he'll only be back 2 weeks before the start of our season. Hopefully Japan will beat Aus in the quarter finals. Kewell looks in such good shape at the moment. I have confidence that should he stay fit (and hopefully a year out has helped his body recover and become stronger) he could be fantastic for us this season. Edited July 17, 2007 by Zoob
micmij Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 He was dropped, but I think Arnold realised that he'd make a more positive contribution coming on for the last half hour rather than playing the whole game. He looks trimmer, but he's still lacking match fitness and wasn't able to make a real impact in those first 2 games. Looked a lot more lively last night.

The club think he'll benefit from playing as many real games as possible, having been out for so long.
Munching Gladbach Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Voronin will be the signing of our summer.Agreed- with all the attention on Torres and Babel, I think Voronin will be the one to adapt quickest and as a freebie will certainly be our best value signing. Interesting to see how many minutes he gets on the pitch and what kind of games Rafa uses him in.
Knox_Harrington Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Kewell's going to be a massive player for us this season. While we hope for the best on Babel, Kewell remains the most proven ball carrying wide player in the squad.
