There was a Dutch journalist talking about Babel earlier and mentioned a few things I hadn't heard anywhere else. Apparently babel wasn't happy with a few technical aspects of his game so went out and hired his own coach to help with his touch and control. He also decided his running style needed fine tuning so found himself a personal sprint coach. This is all from his own desire to improve and completely seperate to Ajax coaching. The journalist said he's never come across a young footballer so dedicated and determined to improve himself.

 

Apparently John Barnes has followed Babel closely and rates him very highly.

He's got a long way to go, but if there's a player he should use as a role model then its JCB. People forget what a great attitude Barnes had because of the beauty of his game, but he had a winning mentality aswell.

 

Also, on that desire to improve thing, it reminded me a lot of what people who know Torres have said about him. Incredibly mature and determined to be a top footballer at a young age. Alonso was the same, and Reina. You can have all the skill in the world but if you haven't got the dedication and guts you'll never be a top player and it seems to me that Rafa is putting that near the top of his priorities in building his team.
