Dominus Maximus Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Inteview After four injury ravaged seasons Harry Kewell is determined to work his way back into the Liverpool side. The now fit left-midfielder spoke of how he is out to earn himself a new contract at Anfield. Kewell said in the Daily Star: "I'll be giving it my all, fighting for a new deal." The Australian was keen to highlight his appreciation for the support Rafa Benitez had given him during four hugely disjointed seasons. Kewell said: "I really owe the manager, Rafa Benitez. He's been a massive fan of mine and I want to repay the faith he's shown in me." Kewell's injuries have resulted in him only managing 123 appearances since joining The Reds in 2003. The winger added: "It's been a difficult time for me with all the injuries. The fans have been frustrated with me and I've been just as frustrated with myself. "I am feeling good now, totally recovered and I'm planning a big season. "I'd like to be with a great club like Liverpool as long as I can. If I get my wish great, but you can't put all your eggs in one basket." -------------------------- If he can stay remotely fit, he would be a great asset. And it's not like he would have competition out on the left...

sean Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I think a good time to start talking about kewell is when he turns in 30 odd games with a consistent return from that flank. Up to now, he's not been good enough, whilst I think we all know he can be and is, which is the disappointing fact.

He's also been injured a lot. They are the true facts.

Not ben consistently performing, has he? Probably due to the 2nd 'true fact'.Still not what we expected, as I remember being truly overjoyed at his signing.
Ronnie Whelan Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 As the original poster made out, a fully fit harry Kewell would be a new signing. A true match winner when on form.

fred milne Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Agreed, delighted to hear the words totally recoveredWe've been there before, though.

Kewell said in the Daily Star: "I'll be giving it my all, fighting for a new deal." I love to see our players getting their priorities right. how about "I'll take less money than I'm on at the moment because I've been an injury ravaged gimp who has been unable to perform consistantly and I'd like to repay the Manager, club and fans." ummm thought not.
Hightown Phil Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Nice cliche count, there Harry. If you think that's bad you should have heard the press conference he did the other week squeezing as many song titles as possible into his responses as he could. First line: 'Yer know, I come for a land down under.'
psl Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I love to see our players getting their priorities right. how about "I'll take less money than I'm on at the moment because I've been an injury ravaged gimp who has been unable to perform consistantly and I'd like to repay the Manager, club and fans."ummm thought not. How do you know he wouldn't be willing to accept less money? Don't think you can criticise what was said really. He's saying he knows he has a lot of work to do to convince the manager and fans that he has a future at the club.

He's saying he knows he has a lot of work to do to convince the manager and fans that he has a future at the club.Yes I can. “fighting for a new deal” - he should be begging for one“giving it my all” – what? Is he saying he hasn’t. or that not giving it his all has ever been a consideration. I’ll criticize what I feel need being criticized and I don’t think I need you to tell me what I can or can’t say about Kewell.
Kite Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I'd love to see him back fighting for his place and fighting fit. But, at the end of the day, it's a game of two halves, and you can't have your egg, I mean, cake and eat it. But, going forward, if you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch.... as they say in France. BTW, what the f*** was the "you can't put all your eggs in one basket" bit all about?
SkippyjonJones Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 BTW, what the f*** was the "you can't put all your eggs in one basket" bit all about? It means he’s going to Everton if he doesn’t get another contract with us.
Sion Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 "only managing 123 appearances since joining in 2003" That's not nearly as bad as I thought it might be. That's an average of 30 a season isn't it.
Paul_LFC Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 You have got to say, on the last game of the season, it was the first time in years we have see Kewell that fit and he looked fantastic in his short spell, cannoned the bar and their keeper made some excellent saves from him. Can't wait to see H next season.
Falconhoof Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 He looks in better physical shape than he has done for about 5 years. I had serious doubts but i'm starting to believe he can make a genuine comeback. He just needs a bit of luck.
anfield Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 If all our players received such patience from the manager and fans, we would still have smicer, josemi, cheyrou etc etc
anny road Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 i think Kewell can have a good season.... he has no excuses...total rest and he should be hungry enough
Frosty Jack Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 If all our players received such patience from the manager and fans, we would still have smicer, josemi, cheyrou etc etc Yeah, and Biscan and Song, Ziege, Stig, Redknapp, Westerveld, Kvarme, Ince, Saunders, Rosenthal, Hysen, Meijer, Dundee etc etc
Dule Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Kewell is playing for his career this year. From what i have read in his articles he will be playing out his last year in the hope he gets a new contract. I think we will see the best of him this year, and he will be one of our main players, just like 2005-2006 season.
Reds4Life Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I can't see much wrong with what Kewell has said to be honest. The lad loves playing for Liverpool, he's been injured and he realises he hasn't performed. Rafa has stuck by him because he can see his potential when he's fully fit, evidenced by when he played with Stevie G more in the middle of midfield and we went on that good run in the 2005/06 season and he wants to repay the faith shown in him. He says he's fighting for a new deal and I didn't see anywhere that he was money grabbing or looking for a better deal at all, just another chance to prove himself at the club he loves and supports and an opportunity to contribute to bringing Number 19 home. Wish we'd get off our players backs and do what we supposedly call ourselves - SUPPORT!! Although I'm sure if he scores a screamer in front of the Kop against the Mancs, the s**** or Chelski, you'll be the first ones to praise him and say you always knew he had it in him, that Harry lad is a genius etc etc
Cobs Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 If all our players received such patience from the manager and fans, we would still have smicer, josemi, cheyrou etc etcKewell is a good player though
Roarcelona Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Kewell is hardly money grabbing. He came to Liverpool for less money than was offered elsewhere. Also, in a recent interview on SBS in Australia, the interviewer (Craig Foster) brought up the fact that any money Harry earns from interviews goes to charity. This is actually quite significant because for a while Kewell was basically only giving interviews exclusively to one station (Channel 9) and so I presume the money from that was going to charity.
