jimmylibel Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Just to separate this out from the transfer speculation thread. A number of posters have suggested that our net spending every summer was about £15-20 million per summer before G&H took over and the new TV deal. I'm not sure I agree. If memory serves we spent about £20 million net last summer and yet still had to take a loan from David Moores to sign Kuyt. The only summer I can think of that we went close to £20million net was the infamous summer of 2002. Can anyone else think of a summer that matches that figure?

IgPig Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 There are some numbers somewhere which actually show it as about £7.5M net per transfer window.
Bootle Buck Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I think it is funny that within a few months of having new owners we are about to smash our transfer record. Could you imagine the comments last summer if Torres and 27 million were mentioned in the same breath. How times change.

Could you imagine the comments last summer if Torres and 27 million were mentioned in the same breath. How times change.Nail squarely on head. Spot on.
jimmylibel Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 GH's first summer? sami, henchoz, westerveld, hamann etc? Good call. Smicer as well for £4.5million. And Titi. Can't remember us selling too many either.
jimmylibel Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 total spending = £81,596,000total revenue = £38,475,000 A net outlay of £43m. Over 3 summers.
IgPig Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Over 3 summers. Well, I suppose 3 seasons is more accurate given the January transfer window. Averaged out over the 3 full seasons its just over £7M per window net.
5InIstanbul Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Over 3 summers.Nope, 6 windows surely. So thats an average of about 7 mill per window net?? Granted summer is bigger but even so...
jimmylibel Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 Nope, 6 windows surely. So thats an average of about 7 mill per window net?? Granted summer is bigger but even so... Yep fair enough - £14 million a season so.
Bailo Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 GH's first summer? sami, henchoz, westerveld, hamann etc?Wasn't that funded by Granada's investment - £25m on top of everything else?
IgPig Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Wasn't that funded by Granada's investment - £25m on top of everything else? Think they helpfully funded the Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou summer. I have since boycotted ITV, service stations and TV rental shops.
Bailo Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Think they helpfully funded the Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou summer. I have since boycotted ITV, service stations and TV rental shops.Pretty sure it wasn't.
IgPig Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Pretty sure it wasn't. If you're right I am going straight down to the nearest service station for tea before renting a telly and then watching "Who wants to be a millionaire" God, the last few years have dragged.

The timing sucks - you've just missed "Britain's Got Talent"

Could you imagine the comments last summer if Torres and 27 million were mentioned in the same breath. How times change. Last summer we didn't have 27m + worth of talent to shift. Of course buying Torres is a brilliant start.
David Hodgson Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 (edited) Over 3 summers. Over 2 seasons, if you omit the Lucas signing and Pongolle sale. Nope, sorry, I'm talking crap, it's 3 seasons worth. Just under 15m net a season. Edited June 29, 2007 by David Hodgson
mooks Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 total spending = £81,596,000total revenue = £38,475,000 A net outlay of £43m.Three seasons - you'd have to include the Cisse and Heskey transfers even though Rafa was not directly responsible for them.
Suth Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 SoldAntonio Nunez Celta Vigo £2,000,000 surely thats not accurate.

David Hodgson Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Assuming the Torres transfer goes through I think it will then be very interesting to see if we remain in the hunt for Tevez. If we are still after him, post-Torres signing, it will indicate that we have some serious money to burn. If we drop out it suggests that our 'net spending' is over, and that Rafa will be selling to buy (which will be disappointing).

David Hodgson Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Or maybe Rafa only wants to sign one and not both? I think he'd have both if money was no object, don't you ?
Tim Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 The club have spent over £80m net since rafa took over.
