Mike Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...070628-1712.htmMomo Sissoko has become the latest player to pledge his future to the Reds after signing a new four-year deal. The Mali international had been linked with a summer move away from Liverpool but the player himself has denied he ever considered leaving Anfield. After putting pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club until at least 2011 Sissoko told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It was never in my thoughts to leave Liverpool. "I read about the speculation linking me with other clubs but I am already at a big big club and it's an honour for me to be able to call myself a Liverpool player. "I feel fresh and can't wait for the new season to start. I am injury-free and although I know I'll face a battle for a place in the team as we have so many great midfielders I'm prepared to fight for a position. "It obviously gave me a huge boost to my confidence that the manager believes in me and wanted me to stay at the club. Now I want to repay him on the pitch."
Boca Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Great news. Stevie Finnan next to complete "phase one"
Armin_Tamzarian Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Great news. I'd have been gutted to lose such a promising young midfielder. We have lots of technicians within the squad but few with the ability to impose themselves on the opposition in the way Momo does.
johngibo YPC Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I'm still very surprised by this. great news for the song thoughin fact 2 great songs are saved
TheLa Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 MOMO IS BOSS. Be warned all you Momo doubters. Seconded. Great News.
Mike Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 me too. makes me think mascherano won't be around after next season. can't keep xabi momo masch and lucas happy (i leave gerrard out as he'll always play) - unless rafa is literally going to change the entire team every week.
Bogman Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Good news. All the important players signing extensions. Finnan next, I expect.
Guest Ant Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 great news for the song thoughin fact 2 great songs are saved Amen to that
Zoob Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I'm well chuffed with this news. We need a strong squad with lots of 'possibilites' to cater for all situations be they tactical or injury related...
sutty Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 great news for the song thoughin fact 2 great songs are saved I'd forgotten about that
PLY Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 (edited) It makes you think that the whole "no money" situation may have been overplayed. IMHO Momo was one of the more vulnerable players if it came down to 'sell to buy' Edited June 28, 2007 by PLY

Boca Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Rafa with the goatee in the picture. He must be compensating for the deminishing returns on his head.
sutty Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 me too. makes me think mascherano won't be around after next season. can't keep xabi momo masch and lucas happy (i leave gerrard out as he'll always play) - unless rafa is literally going to change the entire team every week. Momo hardly played after early March... That says alot IMO.
CarraLegend Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 (edited) Lucas's season has only just finished and now he's playing that under 20 tournament, I cant imagine him playing much in the first half of the season. Then when Momo goes to Africa for the Cup Lucas can step up. Then we can see whats what next Summer with Mascherano and if someone has to go ( ie Momo) then at least he's on a long contract. Edited June 28, 2007 by CarraLegend
Guest Anders Honoré Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 (edited) no idea how we can expect all five to be happy in the longterm. Maybe he wants to see who fails to respond to the challenge of a fourth competitor and offload that one in the summer. Or maybe Macherano really is only on loan. It's just really weird that we have so many central midfielders. Edited June 28, 2007 by Anders Honoré

Lee W Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 It makes you think that the whole "no money" situation may have been overplayed. Bids for Malouda (11m), Mancini (12m) and 18m earmarked for Towers have pretty much crushed that theory/speculation/bulls***.
CarraLegend Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 They aren't that likely to be competing are they? For me its him getting a game ahead of Mascherano and Alonso Its in the context of having 4 quality central mids, I dont expect to see anything of Lucas till well into the season and then Momo is off to Africa, i'd rather be overstocked than understocked. And we dont know if we'll sign another right winger yet either so Gerrard might still be out there. I dont see why its such a bad thing. If we can afford to keep them all then who gives a f***? If someone gets unhappy then they can do one next Summer if they dont like it.
Dan Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Not sure how i feel about this. I thought now would be a good time to cash in on Momo. He really does have to make big improvements in his game to be able to oust Mascherano/Alonso/Gerrard imo. Add to that Lucas and it does seem congested in that area of the squad. This could also mean Gerrard playing more on the right next season and doubts about the long term future of Mascherano. We'll see.
