Guest Snorky Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 The person who was adamant that Henry was signing for us has been in touch. According to him Wenger pulled the plug on the transfer by telling Henry if he moved to Barca he would join him a few weeks later. This is either a juicy bit of info or a good excuse for saving face.

Henry wasn't signing for us, but it was more to do with us saying no than him or Arsenal

Flanders Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 This reminds me of the ZZ rumours of the past. With us denied the Champs League spot by Bradford on the last day of the season, ZZ was forced to move to Real Madrid instead of the Liverpool side managed by his sons Godfather.....Frankly, that was more believable.
londonkopite Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Seems absolutely ridiculous to turn down Henry at £16M and make enquieries for Darren Bent. I trust the people saying he wanted to come but I just don't believe we turned him down.
Herbie von Smalls Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 i hope it's because Rafa thinks henry is an arrogant c***!
jfogarty Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I think this time next year the Henry deal will of turned out to be a great bit of business by Arsenal

Stevie H Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 FWIW i think that adebayor is going to be a massive player for arsenal next season. been really impressed with him last term.
sean Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I'm delighted Henry's gone, not only because he's an excellent player and generally gives us grief, but no more will we have to endure his on-field oh so public shows of emotions and his silly attempts to let us all know he really, really cares.

It's been almost forgotten how well Van Persie was playing before he got injured and how freely he was scoring too.

Van Persie though. He could make all the difference.

San Diego Red Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 from 50 mil to 16 mil seems a bit dodgy anyway.

Sion Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 (edited) Quote Next manager to be sacked. Hutchings, C 7/2 Sanchez, L 11/2 Bruce, Steve 13/2 Lee, SY 13/2 Davies, B 10/1 Wenger, A 12/1 Benitez, R 14/1 Curbishley, A 16/1 Hughes, M 16/1 Southgate, G 16/1 Mourinho, J 20/1 Allardyce, S 25/1 Redknapp, H 25/1 Jol, Martin 28/1 Keane, R 33/1 Coppell, S 40/1 Moyes, D 40/1 Ferguson, A 50/1 O'Neill, Martin 50/1 What a stupid set of odds. Whilst there is a chance Wenger/Rafa could leave, neither are going to be sacked are they. They reckon Southgate has a better chance of not being sacked. Even Jol at 28/1 is stupid, if Spurs get off to a bad start you know what they're like for over-reacting. Idiotic. Edited June 27, 2007 by Sion
Stevie H Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 curbishley could be worth a punt. though i can't work out why he's longer odds than rafa.

Flight Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Its great news for Arsenal that Henry has left; he was an awful captain and couldn't be replaced as such. Last season, their best performances were in spite of him not because of him, including tearing new ones for both us and the Mancs. On top of that they are saving nearly 6mill a year in wages. Also, Hleb or Rosicky may get more chances in their preferred playmaker role.
Gilps Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Anything that leads to more Hleb can't be remotely described as a great thing for Arsenal.
Sion Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Where's all this w***ing over Van Persie come from? Sure he's a very good player but he's hardly a) in Henry's league b) a solution to all of Arsenal's problems, if any.
