Guest Snorky Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Either way, I think we missed him in the second half of the season more than we think.
Reggie Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Definitely. I watched the season review dvd yesterday and he was sorely missed. He may not have won it for us but I think he would have made a massive difference in Athens. I hope we keep him. He's frustrating at times but its worth it for those moments of brilliance. We missed Aurelio too, he created some great assists before he got injured.
Ben 23 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 We missed Aurelio too, he created some great assists before he got injured. And we were stuck with Riise...
kenny7 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Strange thread to open up, unless of course it's going to turn out to be a good bye thread
stressederic Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Luis is a class act, missed him a lot in Athens, and certainly in the league whilst he was out. Could have done with him against United and Everton at Anfield. And we were stuck with Riise... f*** me you're tedious. Damn near every time you post its to put the boot into either Kuyt or Riise.
RafaShanks Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 If we had a fully fit Harry and Luis in Athens, we'd have No 6 safely tucked away in the trophy cabinet.
Guest Yozza Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 If Pennant would have used the ball a bit more wisely then we would have had number 6
Ben 23 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Shame we didn't get more of a chance to miss Kuyt...
Knox_Harrington Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Kewell should have started but yes, we missed Garcia immensely. His movement in the final third remains the best at the club.
pipnasty Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Kewell should have started but yes, we missed Garcia immensely. His movement in the final third remains the best at the club. I really don't agree that Kewell should have started the final - he looked extremely rusty, even after about 10 mins play. I thought after the first few minutes of his introduction that he was going to win the match for us but it soon became apparant why Rafa didn't start with him.

I thought after the first few minutes of his introduction that he was going to win the match for us but it soon became apparant why Rafa didn't start with him. They doubled up on Kewell which in turn created more space. The full back was able to stand Zenden up all day safe in the knowledge he was never going to beat him. In that shape your wide players have to at the very least drag men out of position and ideally beat them and Kewell was more likely to do that than Zenden. However I know where you are coming from and we could have started with Riise or Gerrard there and they would have been more effective, in that shape, than Zenden. Everything died with Bolo. Had we gone with Crouch/Kuyt then Bolo wouldn't have been a bad call as he would have had a direct ball to play when he received possession which wasn't ever really on with Kuyt/Gerrard.
R A Softlad Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Strange thread to open up, unless of course it's going to turn out to be a good bye thread Or a 'hurrah he's staying' thread...
fyds Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 A fully fit and flowing Aurelio, Kewell and Garcia would add immearsuably to our possibilities.
oojason Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 30 goals in 2 and a bit seasons is a great return - let alone his assists and general 'pain-in-the-arsery' he must be for the opposition defences. A fit Garcia will help us on our way to a possible no.19 and he's got a top song too
Maldini Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 If Pennant would have used the ball a bit more wisely then we would have had number 6If everyone had played as well as Pennant we'd have won the final easily.
Michael Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I wonder if Rafa values keeping the ball above moments of brilliance though.
Maldini Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I wonder if Rafa values keeping the ball above moments of brilliance though.I think he's probably prefer someone who can do both
mercury Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Our key Spaniards are toughies, and that includes little Luis. Soldiering on despite only barely walking in the derby - this show his physical courage; keep trying things even when they do not come off - this is mental toughness. Not really a regular starter but surely an impact player. We did miss him last season and I'll be very sad if we lose him.
Tetti Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Love 'im. As if you hadn't guessed. Torres is already on the back foot with me, if Little Luis is part of the trade.
honourablegeorge Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Luis is one of the few plaers we have with real magic about him - a touch of the "how did he do thats". Frustrating, yes, but worth his place.
Paisley Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I would be very sad to see Luis go - you always fancy Garcia to pop up with a goal to turn a tight game. Hope he stays.
