LondonRed Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 So as much as we'd all like another striker at anfield, we already have one done deal in Andriy Voronin. He played for Ukraine in their qualifier Vs France which Ukraine lost 2-0. didnt get a chance to watch the match but from what ive read from the match reports he didnt really get involved a lot, but apparently the commentators were saying he's a stong player that likes to drift out onto the wings...hmmm Kuty like?..i dont know..I dont think it'll be to much of a problem for Voronin to adjust to the premiership, coming from the Ukraine and plying your trade in Germany, you need to be able to handle yourself and hard working.Maybe Rafa's is looking for Kuyt to be his goal scorer and bringing in Voronin to do all the hard work which he does, but then do we really need two similar players of this type?Views...
Guest paisley81 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Veronin. he's a good player and decent option to have.
dodgy1 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Got no views on this man at all. Know nothing about him and not expecting much from him - so anything good will be a bonus.

Gray - YPC Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Slapnuts = Met him in Newcastle when we were on a night out. Very strange fella!!
Ste M Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 He played well against the French, even on his own. The commentators on Eurosport were very complimentary about him. Veronin. he's a good player and decent option to have. And it's Voronin.
autumn319 Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 i've watched the qualifier.he didn't get that many balls so it's hard to say if he's that good or not.he's a quality player, but he's no thierry henry IMO.

Foo Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 I'd be surprised if he stayed for more than 2 seasons most and scores more than 12 goals next season.
Ombudsam Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Don't really get his signing. If he turns out Nunez useful then that'll be good

growler Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 I think he is cover for Kuyt. with it looking like Bellamy is out, we have crouch, Kuyt, Voronin. Can see another pacey player coming in as first choice to play in front of Kuyt.
Guest tkmax Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 having looked at him on youtube (which means nothing), hes a lot smaller than kuyt at 5"10 and seems to have a bit more pace than him. I dont think he is backup for kuyt he offers something different, he enjoyed the most prolific patch of his carear playing alongside berbatov so maybe he could be succesfull alongside kuyt and crouch. not criticising like.

Yeah, Rafa said he was more Bellamy than Crouch. He is more of a second striker. If you were to compare him with others, he?s more like Craig Bellamy in his style of play than Peter Crouch. ?He is a runner and a hard worker who can score goals. Maybe between ten and 15 a season.?
Maldini Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 I think people are underestimating him a bit, he's not top class but he's a decent player, he'll make a contribution. He's clever and finds space between the midfield and defence well, he'll add another "possibility"
Guest tkmax Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 surely if he wasnt on a free he would cost around £7-9mill, which if we had paid would make him an exciting signing. I know that we probably wouldnt have stumped up that much, but it still makes me agree with maldini he could be a very exciting addition to the squad.

Wowzers!
Rory Fitzgerald Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Kuyt is a player that will drop deep and show for the ball, make runs out wide and be a great option in a build up. To a certain extent so is Bellamy, someone that always shows as an option. Crouch though is different, he knows he is useless out wide and generally operates within the center of the pitch. That is why I think he has scored so many goals with the opportunities he has had. For me I would like someone that operates through the center. I am not knocking the value of anyone else but for good play we always need someone in the center to take advantage of balls into the box
bazz Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 (edited) http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...070611-1058.htm Liverpool newboy Andriy Voronin has spoken of his determination to force his way into Rafa Benitez's first team. The Ukrainian striker will arrive at Melwood for pre-season following his free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. "I haven't made this decision to just sit on the bench," said the 27-year-old. "I will be coming to get into the team and form a partnership with someone." Can I be the firs to post a panic post claiming he's a definite starter considering he says so and then be the first to include him in the formation thread because its already the 11th June and we haven't signed a striker yet.....
