The_MC Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Jermaine Pennant was said to be recovering last night after collapsing during a flight to Stansted after a break in Spain. The Liverpool winger reportedly passed out half an hour after take-off from Málaga and was given oxygen by flight attendants. Pennant, who served a month in jail in 2005 for driving while banned and being over the limit, had allegedly been drinking heavily the night before and had had little sleep. He was accompanied on the plane by Paolo Vernazza, of Barnet, and Jonathan Fortune, the Charlton Athletic defender. Sky Andrew, Pennant?s agent, said: ?He is fine now. He just had a bit of dehydration.? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle1896446.ece -- haha, at least he's waited till the end of the season to get pissed up
Cunny Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Youth has drinks while on holiday. What next? take your point but how many did he have to get in that state!!?
L19red Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 thank god its only ale. I read the title a bit too quickly and thought it said beak not break.
Magic8Ball Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I'm sure Rafa will be amusedhope that doesn't affect his liverpool career, its in the off season, and its not like he caused a scene or was guilty of rowdy behaviour, he just passed out
M4TTA Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 oh do behave. So the lad got plastered while on holiday? End of season, oh dear. well deserved imo.
Ronnie Whelan Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 take your point but how many did he have to get in that state!!? I got a late deal back to Rhodes back in 2004 and arrived the day Greece won the European Championship. Drank cocktails for the night. The next day was the worst hangover I have ever had. Not only from the drink but also the fact that I had not acclimatised. My point is that people are only reading more into this because of the lads history with the drink driving charge and all. He may well have collapsed (fell asleep on the plane) due to the fact that he had more drink than he used coupled with the little sleep and the hot weather. IMO this is only news worthy because of what has happened him previously.
melia Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I've been bevvied on holiday loads of times. I was never given oxygen by flight attendants though. It's either the joys of celebrity or a hangover like no-ones had before!
McBain Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Maybe it's because he's hardly had a drink in his life, so once he'd had a few he couldn't handle it? No?
andyc Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 We came back from a weekend in Poland the other day and one of the mates got sick because of drink the night before. They automatically give them oxygen. Rubbish story.
Guest Garstonite Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 In the immortal words of Popeye, 'He's collapsed completely'.
BDB Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I love how the story has to throw in the month in Jail, now if he was Paris Hilton he'd be out in 3 days!
Mr Makaveli Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I dont think Rafa will be upset by this. Doesnt sound like Pennant caused any problems.. nothing wrong with having good piss up on your summer break. he deserves it.
floyd Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 He's probably took to many tamazies, to get some kip after the billy.
Guest paisley81 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I wonder if the Times will report every incident of footballers getting paralytic while on holiday.
neil33 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 no they'll just report our players the media really hate us don't they
Falconhoof Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I dont think Rafa will be upset by this. Doesnt sound like Pennant caused any problems.. nothing wrong with having good piss up on your summer break. he deserves it. Rafa will be delighted. Its perfect for the modern professional footballer with a history of drink related problems.
mooks Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Rafa will be delighted. Its perfect for the modern professional footballer with a history of drink related problems.Exactly. Anyone who thinks Rafa won't take note of this is needs to have some oxygen administered.
Nerik Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 We came back from a weekend in Poland the other day and one of the mates got sick because of drink the night before. They automatically give them oxygen. Rubbish story. Judging by that comment you'd expect people to believe that all the charter flights heading back to the UK from holiday destinations are one big oxygen tent. Administering oxygen on board is not an "automatic" thing. I can tell you that, I work in the industry. You administer oxygen, not because someone is drunk or hungover but because he has passed out, collapsed, is having difficulty breathing etc. Very different in my opinion even though the former can lead to the latter scenario which would then raise the question "How f***ing drunk was he in the first place?"
Guest paisley81 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 some of our fans are worse than the tabloids.
genghis Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Hang on, so what we've got here is: "Man falls asleep on plane flight, accompanied by friends. May have consumed alcohol at some point on holiday." I might be going soft in my old age, but I don't think that's grounds for a public flogging. Having said that, he's still a bit rubbish, so if this leads to his being booted out of the club, it's the fair means to an end, eh? * *for those lacking the requisite detection equipment, this is sarcasm, by the way
