theredfella Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Having the obligatory post game pint after footy last night, we were talking about stand out performances as one of the lads had just played out of his skin. This then followed on to the performances we'd seen at the game, the ones where there's one man who's been head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch. Using the criterion of games we'd attended, there were some crackers; the Manc was talking about watching Keane (no band jokes please) in Turin, one of our lot mentioned Fowler against Fulham in the League Cup and so on. So which is the stand out performance for you that you've witnessed? My own choice was Barnes against QPR in '87 - a masterclass of artistry and downright taking the p*ss
matty Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I'm not very good at remembering these things but I do remember Jamie Redknapp having a stormer at Old Trafford one day.
Will Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Crouchie vs. Arsenal this seasonCheyrou at Chelsea when we won 1-0
Guest Greasy Belcher Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 (edited) Nigel Cough against man united.Ronnie Rosenthal hatrick when he first joined. Dirk Kuyts first apperance in a red shirt was sensational (but nowhere on this list, just worth an mention) Michael Own FA v Arsenal. Alonso Vs Juventus, comes back from a near carear threatening injury and played possibly the most intelligent game of football any red had played in a decade, he paced himself and was magic. Also, I know its not the done thing, just Cisse deserves a little mention for comming on and winning the super cup. Not a brilliant performance, but great impact. 12twelve Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 There was one charlton match from three or four years ago where Gerrard did everything on his own.

Captain Chaos Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 The one I remember was when Sammy Lee tore into West Ham one night in the Semi-Final of the League Cup, by half time we were three goals up (from memory) and coasting!! Another time was the first time I saw Jimmy Case play - I think he scored a hat-trick (stattos will no doubt shoot me down in flames) - but he gave a performance and a half!!
Guest donmac Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Peter Beardsley hattrick against the Mancs - September 1990

The game v Boro that opened our season in 05/06 (or was it 04/05?) too. Quote c95 passesc94 completions1 overhit by about 2 inches inside leftback for ? (garcia) running onto just past his outstretched foot That pass was beautifully spotted too - also, Alonso v Spurs. Do halves count? Gerrard from 45 minutes onwards against Milan in 05.
Scally Bob Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Souness did in 1984, at Bucharest, what Keane did in Turin, only better. Plus he never got suspended and Captained the side in Rome.
psl Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Sami at home to Barca in the UEFA Cup semi is about as perfect a performance as I've ever seen from a centre back.

charlie clown Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 (edited) in recent years I'd have to say the Alonso's performance in the derby after Gerrard was sent off. Further back its Barnes that comes to mind every time. Molby in the double winning cup final as well. Edited June 1, 2007 by charlie clown

theredfella Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 Another one is Steve Nicol against Newcastle in '87 - surely the only full back in recent memory to score a hat trick?
deacon Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Hamman was immense away at Roma in the UEFA Cup in 2001.
