Watched bits of the final before

Can't believe that we never won last week. Milan were poor but Inzaghi took his one chance, we hardly created anything during the match. A few half chances, Pennant, Alonso in the first half. The best chance we had was Gerrard's in the second half.

 

I don't think we'll ever have a better chance of winning the European Cup again, by this I mean by playing such a poor side on the night. Sure we can get there again, but I don't think the opposition will be as weak.

 

Been saying all week that I wasn't bothered about the result because of all that happened off the field - tickets/fans etc, but the depression is starting to drift in like a fog off the sea.

 

Got to say that the team that started was wrong, Kuyt isn't a lone striker and Crouch should have been on long before he eventually took the field.

had we played a 4-4-2 with Crouch and Kuyt up front, and with Gerrard in the middle, i genuinely think we would have beaten them easily. it just wasnt to be. but you're right. Milan were very poor on teh night and there for the taking

And Yes I agree Crouch should of started and if he did I believe we would of won. Thats what hurts the most.

No worse than Kewell IMO. I've tried to erase it all from my memory, but didn't the move that led to Inzaghi's second start with Kewell dicking about?

It's very easy, but the vast majority of fans on the night I spoke to when we knew the team thought it was wrong.

i've known the team to be "wrong" loads of times under Rafa. most of the times he got the team "wrong" we actually won

i found myself watching the game again at about 3am earlier this week.

 

i was still shouting at Rafa to get Zenden off after about 15-20 minutes.

 

only Rafa knows why he left Zenden on the pitch for so long as it was like playing with 10 men for almost all of the first half.

I haven't watched the game since Athens but I seem to remember that just a few minutes after we took Mascherano off and played two up front, Kaka got all the time and space in the world to set up Inzaghi for the second? It might not have actually been Kaka, but I just seem to remember that. If that is the case, isn't there a risk they would've murdered us if we'd played 4-4-2?

i don't think so as we would still have had Mascherano and Alonso in midfield and they would still have been trying to stifle Gerrard from being influential.

 

at times, we could have had 3 at the back with Riise pushing forward as Milan were invisible up front for most of the 1st half.

I'd have done that but with Gerrard on the right. Fair play to Pennant though.

Seriously? Kewell was a major threat when he came on, he played very well.

Our tactics on the night were spot on. Milan were made to look ordinary.

 

Shame none of our players knew how much time they had on the ball, or how to hit the back of the net.

I also wanted to see the reaction of our fans in the stadium afterwards. I have read about YNWA being sung as the team went up to collect their medals, the guard of honour by AC and the way AC players were applauded as they walked passed our end.

 

The YNWA was good, the guard of honour was respectable but arranged. It would have been much better if it was done off the cuff. The tv cameras never shown the AC players walking passed our end.
