Guest tmred Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 logging onto newsnow in the days since the final all i've seen from him is constant talking himself up saying he has nothing to prove and was disappointed by england snubs etc. I think hes improved greatly over the season but does anyone else think he makes himself sound like a complete c*ck with his talk??
floyd the barber Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 ermmmm hes a pro footballer...of course hes a complete c*ck....why would you suspect otherwise
Chili Palmer Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I suppose you could say that his self belief is an asset.
Paul B Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Don't think he's said anything to annoy me. And how do you know he's said what he's reported to have anyway? Might be just paper talk or the journalist wanting things to sound a certain way for his own benefit.
MFletcher Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 It makes me wish he'd be quiet sometimes, but if it helps him play well then I don't really care. It was when he was playing rubbish and he claimed he should be in the England squad that it annoyed me. If he's playing well, I don't really care.
Magic8Ball Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 he's at that critical stage where he got some confidence but deep down he's still not quite sure, so he's using these statements as positive aphorisms - like writing something down to commit yourself to do it. if his confidence grows he'll soon be mostly quiet. he'll let his football talk don't begrudge him this moment of self adoration, he's relieved he's survived the cull and wants to press on, by talking of england etc he's forcing himself to live up to his dream
Ombudsam Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 (edited) he goes off on one about how good he is whenever he has two good games in a row Edited May 28, 2007 by sammya
smicer07 Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 He's obviously responding to questions being asked about the England squad...
HK Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 he goes off on one about how good he is whenever he has two good games in a rowTo be fair, he has been having more than 2 good games in a row recently.
Hassony Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 he has been better than Richardson, SWP and downing this season and he should be in the england squad
RafaShanks Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I mentioned this in another thread but it annoys the feck out of me and I some of them are really cringeworthy. He's been constantly "bigging himself up" after a good perfomance. "I should be in the England squad" "I can be Liverpool's Placcy" He even announced on the eve of Athens in the press conference that he was starting the game, which must of infuriated the hell out of Rafa. Fair enough, he's drastically improved since the turn of the year, but there's still massive room for improvement I feel, especially in terms of end product. He should just keep his gob shut on occasion and let his football do the talking. Rant over.
lawrie Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 he has been better than Richardson, SWP and downing this season and he should be in the england squad Is right - and Lennon for that matter (and Bentley??)
Alonso Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 No. A player who is confident and starting to believe and fit into his surroundings is an asset and likely to play to a high level. When Pennant first arrived everyone said he should be more confident and start taking on players and not be over awed playing alongside the likes of Gerrard. Now he is an has greatly improved and I for one hope he builds on his first season and starts to fulfill his potential.
Maldini Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 He's just a bit thick, I don't think it's arrogance, just naivety. He was struggling for confidence a the start of the season, I don't care if he keeps making statements like this as long as he keeps improving and playing well.

Not quiet nail on head but near enough for me.
Dominus Maximus Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I think he is great. And he should be in the England squad. But then again. The FA is not interesting in winning anything major. If the were, they would never had appointed Mcs***faceLaren. He's played some great games for us, and does at times look as our only threat. How people can skag him off for being happy about his performances is a mystery.

Guest Linton Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 He's obviously responding to questions being asked about the England squad... Exactly, they don't write down the questions in interviews all the time. "So Jermaine, do you think you are good enough for the national team?" "Yes, I have what it takes to play RM for England" It's not more complicated than that and tbh he IS good enough, no way that Lennon is better then him. More promising, yes, better no. And it would be quite gay if he would have answered: "Ehh, I don't know if I'm ready yet, maybe McLaren should try out Lennon or Becks before he picks me?"
JonShar Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 "I can be Liverpool's Placcy" Where did you pull that quote from?
