New York Red Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 The capacity will be increased in the short run from 61,000 to 68,000 with the additions to be basically on the touchlines. The design will incorporate an increase to 76,000 minimum, possibly as much as 80,000. Planning for this will be hammered out over the next five years. Look for a very tall stadium. Bombanera-esque.
Tosh Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 So what you're saying is.... Today we're at 61 The plan is to put us all on diets to squeeze that up to 68 But the build spec will allow for a later increase to 76/80 if we can get the planning permissions over the next few years Frankly, that seems far too sensible to be true Boca...
spencer Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Wasn't the idea to build lower rather than taller to increase the capacity?
RedNik Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Time frame? - as, if not more important than capacity.

You have made my day NYR if what you're saying turns out to be true. Imagine something like this (with a roof of course and with red flags etc on a big euro night) on three sides of the ground with a massive single tier kop at one end - 50% bigger than our current one.
Guz Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Would be great if the stands are as close to the pitch as on that picture
Guest Marshy Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Would be great if the stands are as close to the pitch as on that picture Compared to that picture of Boca Juniors 'La Bombonera' my guess is that the our stands will be closer to the pitch on the sides but a bit further back behind the goals, but if it's anything like the Bombonera (which Rafa has always wanted it to be) with a new much bigger kop at one end it will be the best stadium in the country by a mile.
Guest spk Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 To sit three tiers up and have a view like this would be a joy ... I've love a new stadium along those lines.

JohnOK Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 To sit three tiers up and have a view like this would be a joy ... I've love a new stadium along those lines. That tiddly stand opposite though makes it slightly less imtimidating for me though. Imagine what it would be like the whole way round!
Mr Makaveli Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 The atmosphere would be incredible if what you're saying here is true, i'd just like to know where the hell you found out from
Rimbeux Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Thakingyou, great news btw Poland rocks, in case you were wondering
New York Red Posted May 28, 2007 Author Posted May 28, 2007 Here's the deal right now from what I can gather. I wrote it briefly last night when I had the time but I'll expand on it a little now. The stadium presently is at 61,000 with 1,000 of those seats being for buffer zones between fans. The negotiations will shortly be under way to increase the capacity to 68,000 (same buffers) all within the present footprint which has been approved. The 7,000 extra seats will be added on the sides. The design of the stadium will allow expension for up to 80,000 though 76,000 is a more likely number. My conjecture is that these will be added seats in the ends, so we will have pretty much the finished product on the sidelines. During construction and after the opening, an ongoing environmental impact statement will be put together to hammer out the details of the increased capacity. It won't be easy. My guess is that Tom and George will have to foot the bill for quite a lot of infrastrcuture improvements as part of any deal. My analogy with the Bombanera was my own, and probably a bit misleading. The bottom line is that this stadium will be a very high one, much higher than what we are used to at Anfield. But, I don't think it will architecturally be like the Bombanera. The triple stand and the steepness of the stands will probably be impossible to create in Liverpool. Safety restrictions won't allow it. Honestly, that Argie stadium may have great atmosphere but it looks like a death trap to me. Look for an emphasis on the club seats and the luxury boxes. They are the driving force for making the place an economic success. In effect, they'll subsidize the rest of the stadium. They are also a pet favourite of our owners and the experts in the background. A team will be heading over tomorrow to get the ball rolling on things. The financing plan isn't finalized yet, but there are two teams in the picture for it.
Mr Makaveli Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 That tiddly stand opposite though makes it slightly less imtimidating for me though. Imagine what it would be like the whole way round! that's probably where they seat the away fans. Sounds like a great idea actually... fit all the away fans in the pathetic looking stand that spends the entire game being leered at by the massive wall of blue and yellow...
Sion Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Didn't G&H/Parry say we'd hear something May time? Is it being put back even more?
Dominus Maximus Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 What happend to: We'll start building the stadium within 60 days?
Guest bigfooty Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Thanks for the post, interesting stuff. The original design looks a bit vanilla, I'm hoping once the changes come in they'll make it stand out a bit more.
floyd the barber Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 anyone got links for the new stadium....at least the last designs we saw.
Guest Prongsy Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 (edited) What is your source on this? No idea how they are going to fit 7 thousand seats in where you have said because there isn't much of a gap now. 7k seats definitely won't just be slotted in. I'm waiting to see hte new plans before getting excited. Edited May 28, 2007 by Prongsy

My source is someone very close to the action on this side of the Atlantic.
