Zoob Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 You could also add: thank fek Chelsea didn't play the mancs in Athens.
hels smicer Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Thank f*** we didn't play the Mancs in Athens. here here what happened was bad enough this dosent bear thinking about it
Saintslfc13 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 While I agree with the whole "Thank F*CK we didn't LOSE to the mancs in athens" crowd. I don't think we would have lost to them, on the contrary I think we'd have really done them in big. We're better than they are and as far as english clubs (and all others besides Milan and Madrid for that matter) the CL is OUR competition to lose and not theirs to win.
Duncan Disorderly Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 the CL is OUR competition to lose and not theirs to win.Agreed...but... We're better than they areThey won the league miles ahead of us.
Saintslfc13 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 They won the league miles ahead of us.Nevermind that although I supposed I should have clarified that I meant in Europe. Domestically they beat us by miles as you said, however I think next year will be a different story.
fyds Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 If you knock of the 8 points we threw away at the end of the season saving the players - it's down to 13points - if you then by that little twist of fate reverse the points for the game at Anfield in which he pumelled them and they fluked a result - it's down to eight. Disregarding any other results over the season, this shows the 'gap' is in many ways not so large as it first looks, and is basically down to our difficult start of new players and crappy fixtures.

Never thought of it quite like that thanks for the positive spin but they still beat us. IF we had started well and IF gerrard would've scored his chance when he tried to pass it into the net instead of blast it on wednesday, we might be saying 19-6 instead 18-5, but thats football innit? Of course next year I'm thinking we're the ones celebrating and they're all saying the IF thing...
hideNseek Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Keep writing them off, they only come back and bite us in the ass.
Maldini Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I think the original poster's point was there would have been even more hassle had we played the mancs. I said before the semis there'd be major trouble if it was us and them, having been over there and seen the sham organisation I'm sure there would have been deaths.
surf Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 not the point being made really my point is their point is wrong
Paul B Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I can only agree with Pretty Boy. What we saw was bad enough. If we'd have played them, the violence would have led to English clubs never being allowed back into Europe. I'm convinced there would have been deaths.
The Hitman Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 That's exactly the point that was made.If we took that many fans for a game against Milan, imagine how many we'd take for a game against the Mancs, and imagine how many they'd bring.Doesn't bear thinking about.

Ifs buts and maybes - if they had needed to beat West Ham at home, they would have etc etc. I can only agree with Pretty Boy. What we saw was bad enough. If we'd have played them, the violence would have led to English clubs never being allowed back into Europe. I'm convinced there would have been deaths. Sadly I feel the same

Scally Bob Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 The only consolation would have been that Everton would have been banned from the UEFA Cup next season.
andyc Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 The only thing I would say is that if we drew the mancs, both sets of fans I think would have been more hesitant about travelling, knowin the trouble that'd be over there. I wouldnt have went anyway...and I'm rock I am
