Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Dirk Kuyt is simply not a Champions League class player, nor an improvement on the people he replaced. He may be more disciplined than Milan Baros - a trait that will always endear him to a technocrat like Benitez - but his touch and finishing is equally shoddy, and he doesn't have the pace of Djibril Cissé.
RedNik Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Well no fckin s*** he doesn't have the pace of Cisse. What the hell is this article about anyway. Kuyt scored today too. I will say he is not good at playing up alone. He is however tireless, intelligent and works well with other players. Finishing and first touch could use some improvement - but what a joke this is.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 agree. A lone striker he ain't - and that's not his fault
Saintslfc13 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Wow did they come up with that all on their own? Cisse is one of the fastest players in the world, Kuyt was never going to have his pace, but as far as what he brings to the team there's not even a comparison. They're just having a go while they can... F*CK THEM!
floyd the barber Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 hmmmmmmmm now i guess i kinda do disagree,sorta.. well lets see whats the best way to put this, i think kuyt is a DIFFERENT type of player to both Cisse and baros, but is maybe more a move sideways and not the answer.. Interesting thing is, all our strikers are link strikers....crouch,bellamy and kuyt all need a true predator to play alongside, then we shall see how good kuyt really is.
Nebraska Red Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Kuyt needs another forward to feed off and take the chances that the other striker creates for him, whether it is from a pass, a knockdown or getting a rebound from a saved shot. he cannot hold the line very well and his challenges for the ball are clumsy at times. he was asked to take on 2 good central defenders today and they played him pretty well, with the help of some dubious officiating.
Guest Ant Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 f***'Em Kuyt's Awesome, Don't let anyone tell you otherwise,
RedNik Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 That little dummy, when he let the ball through his legs in the air, to go through to zenden (yes I know that was an awful description) was genius.
mrjunk Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I think Kuyt has done brilliantly in his first season with us. And he CAN bang em in. I for one am expecting great things from him next season.
pipnasty Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Warning to everybody - don't read the comments under the main the lined Guardian article, it's f***ing depressing. f*** 'em.
DanielS Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Warning to everybody - don't read the comments under the main the lined Guardian article, it's f***ing depressing. f*** 'em. Monday morning quarterbacking going on in all the papers today so no point reading any of them.
Ben 23 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 They're right. Some people can't except any criticism of this club or it's players but Kuyt is simply not good enough for the highest standard of football. He should never have started ahead of Crouch.
Mondavi Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Kuyt needs another forward to feed off and take the chances that the other striker creates for him, whether it is from a pass, a knockdown or getting a rebound from a saved shot. he cannot hold the line very well and his challenges for the ball are clumsy at times. he was asked to take on 2 good central defenders today and they played him pretty well, with the help of some dubious officiating. yep, kuyt's qualities require a bit more quality around him. add 1 or 2 of the types of bIg NamE players we've been linked with, and those journo's will be eating their words next season. at the moment he tends to look a bit of a headless chicken at times, almost like he's trying to do the work of 2 or 3 players. similar to stevie in sonme ways before alonso/masch and Kuyt arrived. it's like he's trying to make up for others' deficiencies, and his game suffers as a result.
Mikey Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I can't see how anyone can disagree with that to be honest, if you take away his workrate you have a very ordinary player and I've been saying it all season. People in this thread saying his touch and finishing need improving, so that leaves what exactly? Also where does this "He's an intelligent player" come from? How many times was he caught offside last night, how many times did he give fouls away to relieve the pressure we were putting them under, what did he actually do that makes him an interantional class striker? He and Zenden were both appalling, and I'm 100% certain Kuyt will still be here next season.
JRC Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 (edited) To be fair to Kuyt, he had 2 chances last night and put one away (the other was well, if a little fortuitously, blocked) - not unlike Inzaghi, if you don't credit the in-off as 'taking a chance'. Maybe he doesn't get into enough 'chance' positions, but nor do we create a plethora of quality chances anyway. If we had had, say, Owen last night, then we would not have had the control we did, as Kuyt helped counter the effectiveness of Pirlo and Gattuso. Now Rush, that would hve been different - he did the Kuyt stuff AND scored for fun. But not being Rush is a failing for just about any striker you care to mention. Edited May 24, 2007 by JRC
Guest Anders Honoré Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 (edited) Kuyt does lack the cutting edge to be genuinely top class for me. He doesn't seem have the ability to take a difficult chance and convert it into a goal and he doesn't compensate by scoring a shetload of standard goals either. On form he does the simple things well and works hard to do that. and is a decent goalscorer to boot. He's a good player, but I think we need to see another gear from him next season if he is to be more than just a good player. Crouch seems to have developed that cutting edge. He is a much more direct and aggresive player now than when he first came. Ironically, Baros did have the cutting edge to create something from nothing or go past a defender or two to score a goal. He just lacks a brain to go with his talent. Que someone to say at least Cisse also lacks the talent to go with his lack of brain. Edited May 24, 2007 by Anders Honoré
Guest Walshey Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Why do we give a f*ck about these cockney based media.
Zoob Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I love Kuyt because he's one of those players that will die for the shirt. Thankfully he's a lot better than Mad Eric (who would also die for the shirt), and also contributes with a lot of assists, and unselfish running, but I don't know if he has the natural finishing skills to be the 20 goal a season striker we need, even if he did stay in the box more often. He just doesn't seem to hit the ball as cleanly as the 'killer' strikers do, and seems to need more time to set himself before shooting.
genghis Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 If we get in some really decent wingers and some of the top-class upgrade Rafa is talking about, I think there may be more than few feeling pretty f*cking foolish about DK next year. Just about every pro you hear talk about our team mentions him. As I've said before he reminds me of Shearer, he just needs a season to settle, and to be doing less work for the current under-talented wide midfielders. But then, like Gonzo, Rafa might just say 'sod it' and sell him to be replaced by Henry/Milto/Eto'o/Villa and Torres. All of them.
Mr Makaveli Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Meh... that's all im gonna say to any crap I hear from papers or non liverpool fans etc. Liverpool may not have won any cups this season but I have to say that I've enjoyed it. Was brilliant to make the final and I'm now looking forward to us talking in caps about the amazing players we are or aren't signing... of course this time I think we'll be suprised in a good way and sign some great ones. Tevez is not going to Real, don't care what anyone says.
