Guest RedIsMyColour Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 He may not be top notch but he did us and himself proud tonight. Our big players never showed up but this lad was a credit to himself. He may not have the quality to win us the league but he deserves a good mention tonight, he was our most passionate player. Well in Jermaine lad.
Bailo Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Yep, there are others who won#t be here next year, I hope JP isn't one of them.

He stepped up to the mark tonite and was unfortunate to be on the losing side. Edited May 23, 2007 by bazz
Flanders Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 It was a good effort from him, can't help thinking they wouldn't have allowed that much space to someone they were scared of. A real talent could have taken the game away from them with that much time and space. I would have prefered to see SG there tbh.
RedNik Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I thought he was great, and jankulovski was scared s***less. Final ball was a little poor, and he maybe didn't try to get it in enough - but that was probably because there weren't many of our players in the box at any given time.
Captain Chaos Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 First half - thought he was the best player on the pitch. Hopes he takes from this and becomes a regular threat from our right side. Remember a year ago, this bloke was relegted.
Flip Martian Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 He can run and dribble but his final balls were dreadful for the most part. Not nearly good enough. Plenty of effort, just rarely shows the quality that he can sometimes show.
surf Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I've been pretty critical of Jermaine this season, mainly due to a lack of end product. Tonight he was excellent (he has been for a while, to be fair). Our selection was poor though, cause there was no one in the box to get on the end of his crosses. Really think Rafa missed a chance there.
Zoob Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 He can run and dribble but his final balls were dreadful for the most part. Not nearly good enough. Plenty of effort, just rarely shows the quality that he can sometimes show.unfortunately this is how I saw it too. Think he is still a decent player, and can improve, but he was up against a v poor full back, got absolutely loads of time and space, but didn't put a single good cross in. Have been impressed with his dribbling skills second half of the season, but after he's beaten his man, his final ball needs to be better. Rarely seems to whip crosses in.
CaptainXabi Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Unfortunately for Jermaine Pennant, there was no one to cross to today. As I said in the formation thread, he's a good player, but of little use with just Kuyt and Gerrard up front.
Guest Linton Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 He HAS the quality to win the PL. He is one I would keep. We did good today but it just wasn't our night. We are sorted defensively, if we add creativity and a top goalscorer we will be fine.
Guest Gazzla Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Football is all about opinions but for me Pennant was not good enough tonight especially with the space and positions he got into, I was surprised by the tactics (although for the most part they did work!) but for me picking Stevie on the right and Crouch upfront would have been the better option. I though Pennant was poor tonight and a quality player in that position would have made Milan pay. Not doubting his effort but simply not good enough
Guest Derrick Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Got into some good positions first half, but lacked any real quality in his crossing. Second half he might aswell not have been playing.
lfc003 Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 1st half he was great. His final ball was disappointing but in all honesty he had noone to cross too.
Captain Chaos Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Overall best player on the park. Brilliant tonight. Agreed!!
RedNik Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I don't even think his final ball was all that poor. I can recall twice in the first half that he picked out Stevie G, who cocked it up (although the left foot volley was really difficult). More often than not, in the second half, Pennant would check and cut back - simply because there weren't in the box options. Crouch really should have started. IMO, if Rafa wanted to go with 1 striker, Kuyt is not that player and never will be. We were far better with Crouch up front, winning more 50-50's and he brought the others more into play.

Masherano was our best player tonight, Pennant for me was simply not good enough and a better right winger would have made them pay. zenden was also dreadful but didn't really look fully fit to be fair

Thing is without Kuyt doing all his work deep perhaps we wouldn't have dominated so much....who knows.... thing is he simply turned it on tonight and showed no fear at all and played better than I thought he could ever play. I hold my hands up, didn't think he had it in him. When he had no options he started to dribble in field and was wonderful. Feck it perhaps tonight if nothing else is the making of a player who looked ever bit as good as Ronaldo against a really top top team.
Duncan Disorderly Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Agreed that he had no-one to cross to, but he needs to learn to take the ball into the box himself; he obviously has the ability to pass players; no need to cross the ball at every opportunity just cos he`s in a particular area of the pitch. He`s young, but he`ll discover his own potential and hopefully that`ll be with us, he`s a great player and he`s matured a hell of alot in the season he`s been with us.
Romario Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 He's 24 (?), hardly young...Same age Ian Wright started as a pro.

I though he was poor and would have taken him off and put Gerrard out wide and Crouch up front Edited May 23, 2007 by Gazzla
RedNik Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 How can you say that? He found gerrard in acres of space in the first half, but gerrard volleyed over. He crossed for Gerrard a few minutes later but the chance was wasted as Stevie attempted a very difficult left foot volley. Pennant was a great outlet throughout the match, and had our first shot on goal - and it was well placed too.
