Kuyt goes for a header when the ball is nearly 6 feet off the ground. Nesta ( i think ) clears it with a kick and no foul given. Kuyt wins the ball and it drops for a shooting opportunity and...foul for foot up. Kewell wins the ball with Gattuso a yard away and...foul for foot up.

 

Incredibly poor officiating.

 

And he blew the final whistle 20 seconds too early. We'd probably lost but it only takes a couple of seconds to score a goal.

I'm going to watch the match again at the weekend and count how many times he gives a foul against one of our players when allowing one of theirs to get away with the same challenge. Milan player backs in to Liverpool player and doesn't jump for ball - freekick to Milan. Liverpool player stands ground whilst Milan player jumps on his back - freekick to Milan.

 

Yeah, he booked Gattuso when he could have booked Agger but his decision making was appalling most of the time and usually in their favour.

 

2 subs in injury time and final whistle is 20 seconds too early ? F**k off.

As the OP said, he wasn't the reason we lost, but had it been a more balanced ref, it would have been a very different game.

 

Unbelievable how many free kicks he awarded simply because any of our players tried to contest the ball in the air. Even on the ground Kuyt was penalised every time he tried to win the ball back.

 

Given the time wasting Milan did in the second half (Dida alone held the ball for 10-12 seconds each time he had it, or took up to a minute to take goal kicks) there should have been at least 4 mins of injury time. But once Milan spent half of injury time time wasting, and made a substitution, I couldn't believe it when the ref blew up early.

My grandfather was a ref. One of my mates is a ref. Don't really normally have a go at refs but that f***** was a crooked c*** if ever there was one. Unbelievable.

Yeah - forgot about that. And it was pretty significant, because I suspect the fact that Mascherano was booked influenced Rafa's decision to sub him rather than Alonso.

I can lose with dignity, but that ref was by no means reasonable. Reasonable would mean allowing our players to jump for the ball without calling them for a foul 90% of the time. edit - plus ending the game early.

The ref was okay, no real grumbles there apart from perhaps the Mascherano booking. I'm really dissappointed but looking forward to next season. This competition is ours

 

and for what its worth, congratulations to Milan, not really worthy winners but they were sporting enough to clap our players off the pitch, good respect

All this whinging about the ref just masks the real problem - we've no decent strikers or wide players, our goals 'for' column is scandalously low. Crouch who is our only half decent striker was a sub and came on far too late, Pennant and Zenden are simply not good enough for LFC. Hopefully now Rafa's got some money to spend the excuses will stop and we'll sign some real quality in those positions.

Second half was when we really had the problem.

 

First half, we had a fair few I thought. Second half - clear cut chances, Stevies effort, the goal ... couple of long range efforts - thats about it though.
