Might not come as a shock to some of you but Admiralofthefleet is my selection for the Derby.

Authorised is favourite and probably deserves to be on known form but i think there are enough doubts to look elsewhere - he's a very short price and will probably be shorter on the day given that Dettori is riding him...but Dettori has never won a Derby. Johnny Murtagh and Mick Kinane have and one of those two will be on Admiralofthefleet. Given that he's 16-1 i think it's very, very backable and i'm certain that in 10 days time he'll be in single figures, giving anyone on the exchanges the chance to lay off their bet if they wish.

Other positives for the Coolmore horse are the tracks he has won on - Chester and Goodwood, both odd tracks like Epsom with sharp turns and undulations. 3 of the last 4 winners of the Derby had won at either Chester or Goodwood before their Epsom triumph. He looks a very versatile horse that takes most things in his stride and having improved with every run as a 2 year old i expect him to do the same this year - he won easily last time out at Chester and the form has a solid look about it - 2003 Derby winner Kris Kin won the same race on his way to Epsom and Admiralofthefleet ran a faster time on slower ground in his renewal.

I just think it's excellent each way value.
