Didn't we open up superstores in the Far East selling Hillsborough memorabilia?

I'll bet all those articles in rags such as the S*n and it's ilk following the disaster really inspired new waves of support.

May I say that when Everton were successful in the eighties, there were as many blue souvenir shirts in towns in my part of the world as there were red ones.

What a silly little piece of writting that was. I think the guys a fool. Claiming that United are succesful because of the munich disaster is equally as offensive. The fact he feels Arsenal did not need a public bout of sympathy because they had alwasy been contenders.

 

I cant wait for the next instalment of the guys writting. Where he explains how Nottingham Forrest and Leed United fell from the top echelons of the english footballing elite due to the fact did not orchestrate massive bouts of public sympathy by capitalising on disaster rebound factor. Also the bit where he predicts the rise of Bradford on the anniversary of the fire. The guy deserves a boot up the hole. His ignorance is more offensive than his stupidity.

The only part of that which has some semblance of truth is the reference to Man Utd. Munich didn't make them successful. It DID, however, bring a surge of support across the country which is still with us today.

dunno stevie. manu were not a massive team before that.

wolves were possibly the biggest side in the country in the 50's.

My mother keeps an eye for Man Utd for the sole reason of the Munich air disaster. There's nothing wrong with it and of course there was a surge of sympathy for the club and people of Liverpool after Hillsborough. However, for these c**** to suggest the club used it as a marketing ploy is total rubbish and a shocking thing to say.
