IgPig Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 think he'll be on the bench. Reckon Rafa might have started with him if he thought he could get him fit to start the final.
Cobs Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 we could be seeing a Gerrard Alonso Mascherano Kewell starting midfield 4 in Athens
Guest JayMc Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Got to play. I think we'll go 4-5-1 and with Kewell on the left he gives us that bit more in attack.
Paul Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Looked good today but does he deserve a place in the team for the final? He's a bit like those fans who haven't attended a match all season and yet all of a sudden they're going to the final at the expense of regular match goers
Gerrardrules Posted May 13, 2007 Author Posted May 13, 2007 He played very well! Thats the Kewell I want to see next year on our left wing!
crisps Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Looked good today but does he deserve a place in the team for the final? He's a bit like those fans who haven't attended a match all season and yet all of a sudden they're going to the final at the expense of regular match goers good question really, it aint his fault he's been injured but it may slighty pish off a couple of players... but is he our best option for the left... yep:)
Guest Evil_Ways Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Deserve and deserve...You know it's down to what is best for us, Harry Kewell, Riise or Zenden. No doubt Kewell is the best option of the 3, only question is if he's fit enough.Looks to be physically in the best shape he's been for ages...

Guz Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 If Rafa thinks he's our best option, he plays. End of. Whether he is match fit enough or not we'll see. Certainly a place of the bench it seems.
Paul Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 He's in the Ballot with Zenden and Gonzalez Poor bugger has no chance then. lol
Guest JV Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Excellent when he came on today. Just hope he gets some good luck on the injury front. The lad deffo deserves it.
Guest JayMc Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Not sure his fitness is a big issue here. It's a one off game and if we can get 60 or 70 good minutes out of him, that'll do. He can get fit in the summer.
Guest JayMc Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 does he only start finals, this fella? He does it on purpose.
Rimbeux Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 If he's got 60 in him, it's a gamble whether you use it from the start and try to win the game, or keep him for 30+30 at the end when the pace of the game drops. At a guess I'd imagine it will be the latter and we'll aim to be in the game with 30 to go and go for the kill
Mike Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 class is permanent.by far and away the best left sided player at the club and now he's fit.
RafaShanks Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 To be honest, all our other options are absolute gash. It all boils down to Rafa and whether he thinks he's in a good enough condition to play a huge part of the game. He shocked all of us 2 years ago with his decision.
Guz Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Not sure his fitness is a big issue here. It's a one off game and if we can get 60 or 70 good minutes out of him, that'll do. He can get fit in the summer. It's not necesarilly about stamina and lasting 90 minutes but having the sharpness and speed of movement and thought that is often lost for a short while after a long term injury. It takes some players a few games to get that back and we (Rafa) has to assess whether it's more useful having a less than 100% fit Kewell as opposed to a fresh and ready Zenden, Gonzalez etc Although, if he starts and goes off injured Milan will s*** themselves
stressederic Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 (edited) If he does play, I hope it is out on the left and not off a striker. Edited May 13, 2007 by stressederic
Mike Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 a 80% match fit kewell is still approximately 40% better than riise and 60% better than zenden.
Guz Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 a 80% match fit kewell is still approximately 40% better than riise and 60% better than zenden. That's up to the manager to decide. We have so many possibilities in terms of starting formations and line up (although I'd say 7/8 of 11 positions are certs) that it's pretty damn hard to predict how we'll start. Rafa threw everyone off by starting Zenden against Chelsea and Gerrard in the middle, nothing is a surprise anymore.
Zoob Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 a 80% match fit kewell is still approximately 40% better than riise and 60% better than zenden. Your figures have a 12% margin of error, but the point still stands. I'm sure Ancelloti and the Milan Right back would much rather see Zenden or Riise playing left midfield for us.
Mr Makaveli Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Looked good today but does he deserve a place in the team for the final? He's a bit like those fans who haven't attended a match all season and yet all of a sudden they're going to the final at the expense of regular match goers You could argue that kewell deserves his place in the team cause he's had a really hard time and has clearly been working really hard on getting fit this season when all the other players have been able to play without injuries ruining their seasons totally.. I don't know exactly which side of the fence i'll sit on however , I think that kewell looked very sharp for the pieces i saw him in today. If it is better for the teams chances that he starts on the 23rd then so be it. To me that is all that matters... not whether he 'deserves' a place cause he hasnt figured all season.
surf Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Harry on the left, Masch, Alonso & Gerrard in the middle, Pennant out right and Kuyt up front. I thank you.
